Status check

I own a MacBook and a Vista, but I can't see your status on my Vista. I used your script to my Monobook.js too. I can see your status on my Mac though. Already bypassed my cache. Help? Perseus!Talk to me 18:08, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Status check

For some reason I can only see a user's status using status check when I zoom out, it doesn't seem to work for people using a lower resolution like mine (1280x768)

It's likely that the status check element is in the wrong position - you can configure the position by following the instructions on the installation page. Ale_Jrbtalk 11:42, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

A request

I have made a pathetic attempt at throwing together a javascript thingamummy. I was totally guessing, as you can probably guess, and I stopped trying halfway through. However, if you could finish it up for me (I would assume that it will be relatively simple), I would be very grateful. You can find it here. I'm wanting to have two tabs added to the top of the window, one that will add an interrobang to wherever you are typing, and one that will add an irony point. I'm using monobook ,so if you aren't already using it, I would appreciate it if you could make this work with monobook. Being as simple as it probably is, I doubt that that would change anything, but I thought I'd through that in there. If you could throw something together for me, and then just put it in my sandbox for me to copy to that page, I would be grateful. There are lots of prewritten scripts that perform that general task - check out Wikipedia:User scripts for general info, or this one looks good: User:MarkS/Extra_edit_buttons. Ale_Jrbtalk 21:08, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Use Microsoft Paint, or choose one of the premade images on that page? :P I will look into your tabs one that you asked about, but adding text into bizarre places on the screen is often more trouble that you'd think, and I don't have the time to devote to it right now, especially as I have several projects of my own that I'm working on. New Feature?

Fail

Igloo just crashed mid session. I was loading a new diff and it suddenly crashed. Mr. R00t Talk 00:59, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

You need to be much more specific. Saying, "omg it stopped working" isn't helpful - what exactly happened? What JavaScript errors were in the console? Did igloo tell you anything? Was the rest of the browser still working? What diff were you viewing at the time? Were you trying to perform an action such as load a new diff, or was igloo just idling on a diff? Thanks. The result was it took me to User:Ale jrb/Scripts/igloo/init, and just stayed there until I clicked the link to "Report a Problem". It did not give me any js errors. Just stopped working. Sorry for the brief explanation originally. Mr. R00t Talk 18:32, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
The main igloo program never redirects to that page, which is only used for startup. That sort of action is commonly caused by pressing the backspace key, or accidently hitting a link to the igloo page. Let me know if it happens again. Thanks, Ale_Jrbtalk 19:16, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Quick question re: Igloo server and logged IPs

Hi. I've recently since switched to using a Linux system and since I find Huggle unreliable and hopelessly slow in wine, I was considering giving Igloo a shot. I just had a quick question regarding the non-WikiMedia server mentioned on the information page: does it store IP addresses in such a way that anyone could link them to an account, or is it just you who could do that?  -- Lear's Fool 12:58, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

igloo transmits your session key and username with all requests to the server. The logging system records the IP address used to generate each session key, and session keys cannot be used from multiple IPs. Thus, anyone having access to the logging and session databases could link any IPs you've used igloo from with your account. With that said, all server scripts only have write access to the logging database so couldn't be used for that purpose even if there are missed bugs in my code, and the only way anyone would have access to any of that is if my server or server control panel was compromised, in which case they could access it anyway. It's up to you if the security risk (which I think is quite small) is too significant, or not. Ale_Jrbtalk 13:49, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. That sounds reasonable to me; the impression I got from the warning on the page was that the risks were more substantial. It may be worth clarifying (or maybe explaining with a footnote or something) what the risks are in a little more detail on the page. Sorry to bug you, but I've given it a try (initially in the current Firefox 4 beta, and then in Firefox 3.6.12) and after logging in successfully and viewing a couple of edits, I get the same error: "userlist retrieval failed - lost connection to iglooNet". My internet connection is fine, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Do you have any advice?  -- Lear's Fool 14:24, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
This happens when an ajax connection to the server times out without a response - what's odd is that you're getting past the initial loader, where it downloads the entire list, but timing out on the update request, that only gets changes to the list - I've never seen anyone experience this before. Have you got anything preventing multiple connections? Any large downloads going on? The initial download is much bigger, so more forgiving, but even so... Ale_Jrbtalk 14:46, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
It's actually managing to update the list after it loads: it runs as I would expect for a few minutes, but the first three or four times it just crashed, and then it crashed as soon as I tried a revert. No large downloads were running, the bandwidth is ample, and I'm not going through a proxy or anything. I'll leave it for a while and try it again in 24 hours or so, see if that makes a difference. If it helps, I'm running it on Fedora 14, although I can't see how the OS would make a difference...  -- Lear's Fool 16:38, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
