Hello! I saw that you deleted a page that I created about MONQ Aromatherapy portable diffusers. I can understand why it was deleted, it did seem a little like an ad, and I didn't realize that I couldn't use the companies website as a source. I was wondering if I could re-create this page to make it much more neutral to just talk about the company and their mission?   • The page which I deleted was just the talk page of your sandbox, and I deleted it because the sandbox had been deleted, making the talk page redundant. The draft of an article about "MONQ" had already been deleted by someone else.
  • Although I did not delete the draft article that you created, since you have asked me I will offer you a few comments on the matter. I hope they will be helpful to you.
  1. The page you created did not "seem a little like an ad": it seemed exactly like pure advertisement.
  2. This is at least the second account that has been created and done nothing at all other than post promotional material about "MONQ". It therefore appears that the company is trying to use Wikipedia for marketing purposes, which is not permitted.
  3. If, as seems likely, you are editing on behalf of "MONQ", you need to be aware of Wikipedia's guideline on conflict of interest and related issues. To help you, I will post below this message a notice summarising the main points, and giving links to more complete information.
  4. In the much less likely event that you are not working for the company, and wrote something that looked like blatant marketing copy for some other reason, my advice to new editors is that it is best to start by making small improvements to existing articles, rather than creating new articles. That way any mistakes you make will be small ones, and you won't have the discouraging experience of repeatedly seeing hours of work deleted. Gradually, you will get to learn how Wikipedia works, and after a while you will know enough about what is acceptable to be able to write whole new articles without fear that they will be deleted. Over the years I have found that editors who start by making small changes to existing articles and work up from there have a far better chance of having a successful time here than those who jump right into creating new articles from the start.
  5. There was a discussion about a previous article about "MONQ", in which there was unanimous agreement that the subject does not satisfy Wikipedia's notability guidelines. After receiving your message on my talk page I have searched for information about it. What I found convinced me that the decision reached in that discussion was correct. A topic which does not satisfy the notability guidelines is not suitable as the subject of a Wikipedia article, no matter how well or badly that article may be written.
  6. In the very unlikely event that, despite what I have said, an article about "MONQ" does get accepted, the company will not own the article, and will not have control over its contents. Any promotional content will be removed, as will any content from unreliable sources, content not attributed to any source, and content from the company itself or any other company or organisation with any connection to the MONQ company. Information published in reliable sources independent of the company will be added to the article, whether favourable to the company or not. Thank you for your feedback. I am not working for the company, nor do I have any personal ties with the company. This was a project for my college class to create a Wikipedia page for something that did not have one yet and I chose "MONQ". OK, and I'm sorry that your college work has had a setback. There is organised support for teachers who wish to use Wikipedia editing as a task for their students, and when individual teachers do it alone, without that support, problems frequently arise, especially if the teacher has little or no experience of editing Wikipedia himself or herself, so that he or she doesn't know what is likely to be acceptable. I have no way of knowing for certain whether that applies in your case, but my guess is that it does, as otherwise you would have posted a notice on your user page saying that you were a student involved in a Wikipedia education assignment. When teachers set Wikipedia editing assignments without either having the knowledge to give proper support to their students themselves or else having support from the Wikipedia education project, students often run into problems such as seeing their work deleted.
