Managing a conflict of interest[edit]
Hello, Abaldi1998. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Layla Love, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted.
Finally, please stop marking significant changes as being minor edits. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 19:07, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Daniel! So sorry about marking changes as minor edits when it was the addition of information. I didn't realize what exactly that meant. I'm editing Layla's page as part of an art history course on modern contemporary artists. I'm not related to her at all. Abaldi1998 (talk) 19:20, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- I have no idea what sort of 'art history course' would involve adding promotional content to Wikipedia, but whoever is running it should familiarise themselves with the relevant policies and guidelines before encouraging students to edit here. Content in general needs to be based around published reliable sources that are independent of the subject, and this particularly applies to biographical content. We aren't interested in what Love has to say about herself. We aren't interested in passing mentions blown out of all proportion, and we certainly aren't interested in long lists of exhibitions and the like that cite no sources at all. If Love meets the relevant Wikipedia notability guideline - e.g. WP:ARTIST - it is because of what others have written about her. Self-promotion and/or promotion based on nothing but her own website etc belongs on social media, not here. AndyTheGrump (talk) 20:14, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Andy, I believe I was adding things in a very neutral tone, and included an edition of several citations including articles written about the artist and information published from the galleries. Im doing my best to keep it as factual as I can. When it comes to my course, this is a learning tool for my course to see what we can conjure up on artists that don't have an in-depth wiki page. - Galleries are generally a poor very source to cite, since it is self-evidently in their interest to boost the material they are exhibiting. As for other content you added, we don't cite medium.com (or blogs in general) except in specific circumstances that don't apply here, and as far as I can see nothing else you added was both properly sourced and appropriate content for a Wikipedia biography. Or particularly relevant to 'art history' as far as I can see, for that matter. Perhaps you should ask whoever is teaching your course whether you could chose another subject that didn't rely on Google-scraping for content. AndyTheGrump (talk) 20:36, 7 August 2023 (UTC)

Given your recent edits, [1] I am finding it increasingly difficult to give any credibility to your earlier claim to be be editing the Layla Love biography as part of an 'art history course'. Accordingly, I'm going to ask one last time whether you have any connection with Love, before I raise this matter at the Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard. - Hi Andy, I added information mostly based on pre-verified resources. Anything that was new, I added as a separate edit, in case it was an issue with specific things. I added all information it in a neutral tone, making sure to source and cite everything added. Could you tell me how this is promotional content?
- I do not have any connection with Love, other than a personal interest in the work she is doing on humanitarian efforts. I reviewed guidelines, and was hoping to see if I could accurately make these changes. Abaldi1998 (talk) 15:59, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
