Drive-In Picture

Excellent shot of the drive-in. You got both screens in there too and didn't have to be across the street (it appears) to do so. :) I was literally standing in a ditch across US11 to get the shot I go. :) Well done! :)

I gotta admit, your photo additions to the Stephens City page have really brightened it up. Thanks! :) - NeutralhomerTalk • 01:05, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

Thanks! I know it was discussed on the article's talk page, but I didn't see a clear outcome of the discussion. Do all of the photos have to be right-aligned? It looks somewhat odd (to me, at least). Not sure how it looks on other screens. APK whisper in my ear 03:43, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
I think it was discussed somewhere, but I can't remember where, that right-aligned was prefered for FAs. Granted this was in 2011, so it's been awhile, and that could have changed. :) I have seen FAs with images on both sides, so I do believe that has changed. I personally don't mind images on the left, as long as it doesn't squish the text and it doesn't squish the section header lines (two big no-no for FAs). - NeutralhomerTalk • 04:19, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

Participant Media

Thanks for doing that. I realize that Participant Media has updated its logo. But when editors upload this, they invariably provide no Fair Use rationales. I just don't want to see "my" logo deleted because it's not used, and then to see some other editor's malformed Fair Use logo also deleted — and then the article has no logo for the infobox! And I fail to see why editors just delete "my" logo, rather than using it in the text (which would help maintain its Fair Use rationale). Arrrrrrgh! - Tim1965 (talk) 00:40, 4 October 2015 (UTC)

Ah, I didn't realize the logo had changed. But yeah, they should just move it elsewhere in the article. APK whisper in my ear 00:50, 4 October 2015 (UTC)
I also have to monitor the logo image itself. Some editors like to slap "this isn't the right license" tag on the image file, to try to get it taken down so only their logo image remains. And when the image is removed from the article page, then a BOT immediately slaps a "non-used image" tag on the image file which has to be removed as well. - Tim1965 (talk) 19:34, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
Bless their hearts. (which, in Southernese, can mean a lot of things...) APK whisper in my ear 22:45, 5 October 2015 (UTC)

I ususally do so right after removing their heart from the chest cavity. Although, I've stopped doing this on the driveway, as the police showed too much interest. Now I usually do this in a vault in the basement... - Tim1965 (talk) 17:41, 13 October 2015 (UTC) (happy halloween!)

I have an idea of what that would look like. APK whisper in my ear 21:28, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi, saw that you created the talk page for the Shaw Library. Are you sure it's not B class quality? It's much more developed than a lot of C class articles. Maybe lower rating will trigger more contributors? Bangabandhu (talk) 11:39, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi. I tend to rate articles C-class unless they're quite thorough, but since you feel the article meets B-class standards I changed the rating. Good job on the article, btw. FYI, the Commons link doesn't work. APK whisper in my ear
I went ahead and removed the Commons link. The current image hasn't been transferred to Commons and I didn't see additional images to create a new category there. APK whisper in my ear 17:57, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

Making Any Trips Around Here?

Hey APK, hope all is well in your neck of the woods. I was wondering if you were going to be making any trips in or around Winchester in the next couple weeks. I ask because I was wondering, if you have the time, if you could get a better shot of the WINC Studios in Winchester. This was the image I took early last year and it stinks. I couldn't get a nice, clear shot, the power lines were in my way, and getting a shot of the tower (to the left of this image) was near impossible. Since you worked your magic on the Trinity Lutheran Church image for the Stephens City page, I was hoping you could do the same for the WINC (AM) page. - NeutralhomerTalk • 08:06, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

@Neutralhomer: Sure thing. I'll try to get a shot the next time I'm in that area. APK whisper in my ear 01:22, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
Awesome, thanks! :) The address is 520 North Pleasant Valley Road in Winchester. The WINC-AM tower is right next to the studios. You'll see it before you see the studios.
Just to note (for when you add a description to the image) that is only the tower for WINC-AM. The tower for WINC-FM is waaay up on the very top of Signal Knob on the Shenandoah/Warren County line. WXBN-FM's is outside of Berryville and WZFC-FM's is near Strasburg. - NeutralhomerTalk • 19:20, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
Got it. Thanks. APK whisper in my ear 01:52, 22 November 2015 (UTC)
Here you go. Sorry for the angle, but vehicles were parked in front of the building. I'll try to get another shot sometime when it's a clearer shot and better skies. APK whisper in my ear 18:27, 22 November 2015 (UTC)
No need, that's perfect! :) The angle gives a perfect view of the entire tower and the studios from one side to the other. Really a perfect picture. I'm not worried about the clouds as they aren't dark and stormy or anything. Thanks for taking the shot, much appreciated. :) - NeutralhomerTalk • 02:04, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

As you can see, I was treading a bit on your territory last weekend, and managed a handful of shots, half-decent and otherwise, of a number of the remaining unillustrated sites. Please feel free to replace any of them with something better - my camera is of limited quality, and I didn't have the kind of time and/or desire to trespass to get decent shots in a number of instances. (I'm traveling again this weekend, and haven't had the time to slot the images into their respective articles yet. That will come soon, I hope.)

Rappahannock County turned out better, I have to say. Though my transmission is not pleased with the work I went through to get some of those pictures... --02:29, 21 May 2016 (UTC)

I've been planning on getting some shots of the Warren County listings, but since this area has turned into Seattle and it's either rainy or cloudy most days, I've been delayed. Thanks for taking the shots you did. I've been working on National Register of Historic Places listings in Frederick County, Virginia, but as you mentioned, trespassing is a concern in rural areas. (the NRA is required membership in these parts, or so it seems, and I don't want to find out if the home owner is packing heat) For instance, this house is hard to photograph from the dead end road it's on, so walking in their front yard while the dog is chasing me is not an option. APK whisper in my ear 02:47, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
You can actually see little Cujo in this shot on the far right hand side. APK whisper in my ear 02:50, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
Yeah - a couple of places in Front Royal were like that. Like Killahevlin - it's on a large lot, and I didn't feel like taking the time to explain to anyone why I was there; I could see a couple of people on the street giving me funny-ish looks (thankfully, there's a Civil War Trails sign across the street, so I had an excuse to park.) And what's up with Rose Hill? Looks like it might be privately owned; I got really lucky and was stopped at the traffic light there long enough to get the shot that I did through my car window.
Rappahannock County is uniquely well-served, I found; there are only two properties that can't be seen from the road, Sunnyside and Locust Grove/R.E. Luttrell Farmstead, but I managed some shots of the property instead. Better something than nothing.
Do you ever get down to Page County? There are some things I had to miss there, due to time constraints. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:14, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
I rarely go to Page County. If I'm there, it's to enter/exit Skyline Drive, but I'll try to remember to take pix the next time I'm in that area. After I'm done with Frederick County, Clarke County and Shenandoah County will probably be my next stops. (I got one in Shenandoah County so far. I love covered bridges.) My hubby is familiar with those counties, so hopefully we won't get lost. APK whisper in my ear 19:19, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
The trouble with Page County is that a lot of the sites are kind of spread out, so it's a bit tricky to get them all in one go. I went searching in vain for Mount Calvary Lutheran Church there - turns out I was on the right road but it's far enough away that you can't see it. Oh, and there's no driveway to get there.
By the by, if you like covered bridges, get thee hence to Montgomery County, Virginia - they have a lot down there. Very few on the Register, but there was a driving tour of 'em way back when, as I recall. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 19:55, 21 May 2016 (UTC)

@Ser Amantio di Nicolao: - OMGee, I thought I took a picture of Crumley-Lynn-Lodge House today, but it turns out after reading the NRHP form and looking at Google satellite images, it was the wrong house. Normally that wouldn't be a big deal, but I drove down a long deformed gravel driveway covered in large rocks and entered the set of Deliverance. I didn't think my Jetta, Lucy (that's her Christian name), was going to make it back to the main road. I had to keep going to the end of the driveway because there was nowhere to turn around. *sigh* On the bright side, I now know which house it is I need to photograph and there's only three more listings in Frederick County that need photos.

@Neutralhomer: - Since you're Lutheran, I thought you might find this interesting. The surrounding farmland is serene. APK whisper in my ear 02:36, 25 May 2016 (UTC)

Yeah, that part of Frederick County is very pretty and insanely quiet. If you are a star-gazer, there is almost zero light pollution in that part of the county. Love the picture, still doing great work! :) - NeutralhomerTalk • 02:56 on May 25, 2016 (UTC)
I had a similar experience when I stumbled across the Abram and Sallie Printz Farm the other week. Didn't expect to find it where it was, though it was on my list of things to photograph. Fortunately the homeowner was quite pleasant. But it was still a bit unnerving falling over it like that.
Glad to see the weather's improving out your way as much as it's been here. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 07:02, 25 May 2016 (UTC)
