Hi, I'm putting together a wiki page for a documentary film that is on Amazon. The documentary is called "The Man Who Saved Ben Hur" so it's not a fictional topic. Any assistance would be helpful to get this page approved. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Themanwhosavedbenhur (talkcontribs) 08:12, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

20:18:35, 7 August 2016 review of submission by Terri Kenyon[edit]

Not asking for re-review at this time. Asking what specifically needs to be cited in this entry -- this is my first attempt at wiki page. Thanks. Terri Kenyon (talk) 20:18, 7 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You may like to cite the sources using "footnotes", not more references without footnotes. 333-blue 23:39, 7 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Article on Andrija Andabak declined on 16 June 2016[edit]

Greetings. If I'm reading the explanation correctly, you declined my article submission because it did not show significant notability of the person it is about. I believe I've rectified that. Since this is my first wikipedia article, I have no idea on the protocol. Do I resubmit from my Sandbox? Would you mind checking it and telling me if something is wrong with it? Looking forward to your reply. Norgorber (talk) 13:18, 10 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Could you provide a link which the article I declined? 333-blue 14:02, 10 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If you search for the name in the heading, it's User:Norgorber/sandbox. I think it's borderline, and for something like this where I am not an expert, I tend to accept and leave it for AfD to decide. I'm not quite sure how the MILHIS project would view it. DGG ( talk ) 20:57, 10 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It is in my sandbox, User:Norgorber/sandbox.Norgorber (talk) 13:31, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I concur with DGG, in fact I would have accepted this article without hesitation. At the more critical and far more important process of WP:NPP, no patroller would have difficulty in seeing that this article clearly avoids rejection at WP:A7 (claims of notabillity) which is an even lower threshold than most, and would probably require little more than a minor, routine maintenance tag or two for basic improvement of sources, with an appropriate message to the creator. If any patroller is still unsure, they are instructed to leave such articles for more experienced eyes, or if deletion might just be necessary, to send it to AfD. AfC advice[edit]

As someone experienced in this, perhaps I can offer some advice:

There have been some problems with a number of your recent Afc declines and acceptances. For example,

You accepted Tharik Hussain an autobiography that was unanimously deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tharik Hussain
Also NatureIn Focus/ I sent it to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/NatureIn Focus
And Draft:Gateway Gender Alliance; another editor, reasonably, sent it back to Draft space., tho I woul dhave listed it for AfD

You declined Draft:Theodorus van der Croon as not shown to be notable. Archbishops are always notable at WP. I've accepted it.
Also Makinson Island had sufficient sources. I've accepted it. And you declined Aung Zan Wai as non notable, even tho it said he was a Burmese senator. Members of any legislature are presumed notable, per WP:BIO. Another ed. accepted it.

Everyone makes errors; the only way to avoid them is not to do anything but the utterly obvious--but try to recognize when an article meets the notable guideline for that type of article. You might want to review the various Special guidelines at WP:N.

And in declining an article for unproven notability, remember that it often is so promotional that this would be a sufficient reason as well. We currently have no direct way of indicating both in the decline reason, but it should be added as a comment.

And myself, I do not go very fast, or do a great many at a time--it tends to induce me to reject too many. DGG ( talk ) 20:53, 10 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There is sure a way to decline for multiple reasons, but not through the script, or else the script will have to be changed for declining multiple reasons. 333-blue 01:07, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
the functionality has been requested. Until it is implemented, I have simply told you how to work around it. DGG ( talk ) 22:00, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Article on Majestic Hotel Group[edit]

Hi! I've just resubmited my article about the Majestic Hotel Group. I did a few changes based on your feedback, but as Im new writing an article, could you help me to improve? Before I wrote it, I read others hotel chains articles to have a base and more or less follow the template. What's is still missing? Thanks a lot! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Revmchris (talkcontribs) 09:13, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Revmchris, let me help answer this: The problem is that what you wrote is an exact copy of the group's web page. This is not permitted. All material written for WP must be original, and neither copied nor closely paraphrased. Previously published material is to be used as a source, not as the text of an article. It also must avoid promotional language--it should describe what the group is, not say how excellent it is. Webpages do that; encyclopedia articles do not. DGG ( talk ) 22:23, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Without any hesitation, I have CSD WP:G11 this. The two Spanish sources are pure advertorial based on a subject's press release or other primary information. Note that I tend to apply the same criteria for AfD submissions as I do for the guideines at WP:NPP and WP:DELETION which being official processes and policies, override those at AfC. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 02:25, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Aah okk! Thanks a lot for the feedback! It helped me a lot! :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Revmchris (talkcontribs) 09:50, 17 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 13:22:21, 12 August 2016 for assistance on AfC submission by CarlosManzana[edit]

Hello 333-blue,

My question is two-fold (and, thank you for your help thus far).

1.) For the discography section of Martin J. Andersen's page, if I change the text will that suffice? I admit I did copy and paste, but it was late last night (not intentional). 2.) I need to upload an image for Martin. Am I at a point where I can upload one to the commons? It's from his Facebook. He and I have had email dialogue, if you'd like to see it, let me know.

Thank you,

CarlosManzanaCarlosManzana (talk) 13:22, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

CarlosManzana (talk) 13:22, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

OK, since you are writing a autobiography (writing a person who is particularly close to the author or himself/herself), you should write in the NPOV, and you should change the words which you copied. The discography section does not have big problem currently if not copyvioed. Sorry, I can't answer the second question because I never uploaded photos, so I may not be clear in this kind of situation. But you have to ask the person if he is allowed to have it there. 333-blue 00:18, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

19:54:56, 12 August 2016 review of submission by Allisondaly[edit]

I am wondering if you could point to an example in my article of where the tone is informal. This would help me further edit it.

Let me help explain: Allisondaly, the reason the reviewer gave may not have been the best choice: the more exact reason should have been that what you wrote is an essay,; as you say in the first section " The rest of this paper will be more specifically about HERV-W." The style for a WP article is different. It discusses a specific subject, and does not give extensive background, but rather refers to other WP article by linking. It avoids words of judgment or rhetoric like "quite shocking". It presents the material in the dry tone expected of an encyclopedia, not as a lecture of presentation. It normally does not preent the exact experiemtnal details of the studies, but is rather a summary. Especially, it avoids drawing conclusions, such as "Today, it is still hard to tell ..."
In addition, we already have several related articles, particularly Endogenous retrovirus, and ERVW-1. The ERVW-1 article is not really satisfactory as it stands, and the best use that could be made of your material is to expand the clinical section of that article.
I assume the material is copied from an academic paper you have written, and it will need substantial modification to be an independent article in WP. DGG ( talk ) 22:18, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

AfC[edit]

Hi. I came here because I am currently collaborating closely with the WMF on a project to greatly improve the way we review and patrol new articles at NPP and AfC. I left a comment further up about an AfC submission I came across and scrolling down your talk page I noticed that another admin has expressed additional concerns about some of your reviews. AfC has to be done right, otherwise admins like DGG use their valuable time patrolling the patrollers or reviewing the reviewers. We freely admit that that AfC is a flawed process, but every little helps, so if you need a more concise understanding of acceptance and rejection criteria, although NPP demands significantly more experience, you will find the instructions at WP:NPP better organised and perhaps easier to understand - they are basically identical to what is needed for AfC. Do take a look, then come back to AfC and apply what you will have learnt there. If you need any help don't hesitate to leave me a message. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 03:18, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

Article on Rehlat has been rejected due to subject notability but my concern was the website had two news from verifiable sources - ttgmena, travelandtourworld, and yahoo. The links are:

http://www.ttgmena.com/travelport-seals-deal-kuwaiti-ota-rehlat-com/ http://www.travelandtourworld.com/news/article/travelport-and-rehlat-com-announce-new-agreement/ http://finance.yahoo.com/news/rehlat-eid-flight-sale-amazes-213000664.html

I have cited these as references, still the article has been rejected. Can i know the reason for rejection? If these are not notable, then what are?

Thanks & Regards,

Mona WriterMona (talk) 14:50, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The sources are particularly enough, so it only needs to use in-line citations and consist the company's history. 333-blue.

User talk:广州地铁5号线[edit]

On User talk:广州地铁5号线, you reverted my removal of the brackets. That's fine, I won't undo it. But my position is that the user made three badly formed unblock requests at once. I declined one, and that should 'count' for all three. The user is of course welcome to make another unblock request, but you shouldn't get to 'queue up' the requests. How would you prefer that I handle situations like this? I'm legitimately curious, and interested in your opinion. I'm following your talk page so will see your response here. --Yamla (talk) 12:39, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yamla, I prefer to just remove the comment or decline, removing the brackets may count as vandalisms. 333-blue 13:33, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks! --Yamla (talk) 14:54, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 333-blue. This is the second time today that I've pointed out that "I haven't heard of it" is not a reason for speedy deletion. Unfortunately, it was just by chance that the second person was you. Please do remember to look things up before you tag them: we're not here to score CSD points, we're here to build an encyclopedia. Peter in Australia aka --Shirt58 (talk) 04:55, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The admin who deals with an unblock request has discretion in how to deal with it, and that one was dealt with in a manner which is common and acceptable (twice, by two different admins). Your reinstatement of it misled someone into thinking it was a new request and wasted their time, leading to this - if you reinstate an active unblock request, it shows in the list of open requests again and just wastes people's time. Above, I see you wrote "removing the brackets may count as vandalisms". It does not count as vandalism (please read WP:Vandalism), it is one of the accepted ways of dealing with duplicate requests. Please leave it to people who know what they are doing, and do not change it again! And please do not edit war over admin actions that should be left to admins. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 08:10, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

OK, so that is my opinion, thanks for your opinion! I will not change it again. 333-blue 09:09, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
