Ada Lai or 黎雅婷 (born 1975) is a composer from Hong Kong.

Life[edit]

Lai was born in Hong Kong in 1975.

Lai studied piano at the Trinity College of Music in London and obtained their diploma. In 1997 she graduated in Music from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The following year she took a music Masters degree in Composition with A Portfolio of Music Compositions. She became a Master of Philosophy in Music Theory with the theme The Issue of Time in Messiaen's Music . Her teachers include Chan Wing-wah , Victor Chan and Cheong Wai-ling. She graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2004 with a Ph.D.[1] by Brenton Broadstock[2] and Linda Kouvaras with the work The Issue of Time in Quatrain II (1977) by Tōru Takemitsu .

Her works have been presented at the ISCM World Music Days 2002 in Hong Kong, at the International Alliance for Women in Music concerts in Washington DC, and at Asian Composers League festivals. The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra , Contrasts Ensemble, Eastern Winds Ensemble and Next Mushroom Promotion performed their work.

In 2010, her work Vibrissae (UA Ensemble Sortisatio ) of the Tribune international des compositeurs was presented and was a finalist at the 2010 CASH Golden Sail Music Awards in the category Best Serious Composition. Lai studied piano at the Trinity College of Music in London.

She works as a lecturer at the CUHK. Lai is secretary of the Hong Kong Composers' Guild.[3]
