Frogmore Paper Mill is a working paper mill situated in Apsley, Hertfordshire. It is surrounded by the River Gade, an off shoot from the Grand Union Canal, where boat trips are regularly run during the warmer months.

History[edit]

It is unsure how long there has been a mill on the current site, but it is recorded as being a corn mill in 1086 in the the Domesday Book, and then later changed to a paper mill in 1774. It is the site on which the world's first mechanised paper machine was located, developed by Sealy and Henry Fourdrinier, was installed at the mill with the help of Bryan Donkin in 1803.[1]

The mill is now run by The Apsley Paper Trail, a charitable organisation, now operating as a visitor, education and community use centre.
