Biography[edit]

I'm Vicki Madden, a PhD candidate in English Literature at the University of Edinburgh, where I also attained my MA (Hons) and MScR. My research background is in American Gothic fiction — primarily post-World War II and contemporary literature, film, and television, as well as American popular culture. I have written on fin de siècle gothic fiction, the suburban gothic, gothic psychiatry, and witches. I am a member of the International Gothic Association as well as the American Culture Association.

I currently work full-time as the Digital Safety Support Officer at the University of Edinburgh Information Services Group (ISG), developing ways to help students enhance their digital footprints and safeguard them against online threats. I also previously worked as the Digital Recruitment and Marketing PhD intern at ISG while completing my PhD thesis.

I'm originally from Annandale, Virginia, though I grew up between the United States, Taipei, Taiwan (where I was born), and Beijing, China. I moved to Edinburgh, Scotland at the age of eighteen to attend university and have lived here since. I currently reside in the North of Edinburgh with my Scottish husband and badly behaved tabby cat. I'm at a true crime edit-a-thon.
