Modern Male Fashion in Canada[edit]
There has been an evolution of current style that has seen trends from past generations incorporated into the modern appearance of male fashion. This article review the options that men in Canada may have when choosing to dress fashionably for the year 2014[1].
Articles of clothing[edit]
There are many varying styles of clothing in 2014 for men in Canada to choose from.
Shoes[edit]
Shoes serve practical and contemporary uses in a man’s everyday style. Footwear specifically designed for the workplace usually come with safety features such as being slip resistant. Typically shoes sold in popular retailers are manufactured with laces and this in contrast to former methods of construction such as Velcro strips. Men’s footwear styles such as loaders, and moccasins, slip onto the foot and come in a plethora of colours and materials. Different styles include what is known as high tops.[2]. Low tops are also featured. Isolation is lined to keep the foot warmer in footwear designed for cooler climates. Proper construction of a shoe will leave sufficient room for comfort. Men’s shoes are styled using an assortment of leathers, and suede fabrics. A shoe that fits the foot properly is comfortable and therefore fashionable by these standards. Formal footwear such as dress shoes need are usually black and require routine care, and this is done through polishing.
Accessories[edit]
Accessories have the potential to alter an existing outfit and show off the person's unique sides to their fashion sense. Fashion trends for men consist of thinner made ties that create visual interest. More narrow designs are synonymous with being more modern. Hats such as fedoras or toques are popular and are worn to showcase a particular sports team or fashion logo. Some men are conscious of the brands and trademarks they choose to support, and wear for others to see. Examples of these include Levis, Nike, and Adidas. Jewelry such as watches or chains worn on the wrist and neck. Various tones of gold and silver remain timeless when worn. Depending on a person’s lifestyle a belt is essential accessory to keep pants firmly at the waist. Belts worn with suits are usually smaller and sleeker. In the event of personal themed events the belt buckle acts as a statement piece.
Pants[edit]
Pants are manufactured with pleats or flat fly front depending on the cut of the pant.[3] Modern style suggests a pant that contours the natural curves of the body presents the most sophisticated appearance. Slimmer fitting pants, and in particular jeans have grown more acceptable in mainstream fashion. Also when considering fit having pants hemmed or turned up will create a completely distinct look [4]. However comfort is still the main priority for males when deciding what to wear. Trends in men’s fashion has seen increased diversity in color, patterns, and textures. This idea has also been the case for shorts which in recent years have been marketed using more graphic patterns. Cargo pants and cargo shorts offer more practical versatility with the addition of side pockets, and dual front pockets in order to carry small objects.
Suit Jackets[edit]
Suit jackets can be worn in casual atmospheres or for dressier occasions. Often purchased and needing to be tailored to fit the bodily measurements of the person’s mid-section[5]. Classic colours include variant shades of blues, greys, and blacks. Typically a full suit is paired together with a matching pair of trousers as a basic staple of a working suit in a modern male’s wardrobe. Blazers are jackets generally used to make an existing outfit more sophisticated[6].Scenarios include pairing blazers with jeans, or khaki pants. Usual characteristics of suit jackets are a set of buttons. Different looks include having the button that will synch the jacket giving the person a fitted and slim appearance.
T-Shirts[edit]
A t-shirt is a staple in a wardrobe that commonly can be bought as crew cut or V neck in shape. Typically made from cotton or polyester blends, many labels outline specific instructions for washing in order to prevent unnatural reduction in shirt size. Bright colours such as pinks and purples that were previously stereotyped as feminine are no longer reserved solely for females.[7] Casual in nature, they can be worn during any season. Often T Shirts often display images of pop culture, including favourite musicians, performers, and general interests of the person.

- Short sleeve worn underneath a t-shirt in the summer for some extra flair coupled with suits going to an event depending on the colour. For example T shirts won during a political campaign can represent party affiliation or ideology.
