Question from Daniellealgo (19:43, 1 March 2022)[edit]

Hello! I am trying to get the company I work for on Wikipedia. Do you know how I can accomplish this? --Daniellealgo (talk) 19:43, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi, @Daniellealgo:. Ir will be difficult. As you work for the company, you have a conflict of interest and per the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use, you need to disclose it. Also see WP:NCORP; the requirements for companies and corporations to have an article on Wikipedia are stricter then the usual requirements. You would also need to find reliable sources which are independent from the company you work for, for that take a look at WP:Finding sources. To read the linked articles/pages, click on the words in blue. Lectonar (talk) 08:38, 2 March 2022 (UTC)

Question from Synkronizedfilms (15:08, 3 March 2022)[edit]

Hello, I am Daniela and I am an executive at Synkronized, a 22 years old film and series studio based in the US. We have a lot of mentions from our previous films and history on wiki, and we feel it is time to create a page about this company. Hope you can help in any ways and glad to connect with you and this community. --Synkronizedfilms (talk) 15:08, 3 March 2022 (UTC)

Hello, @Synkronizedfilms: The first problem is your username: Please read our username policy, and act accordingly. Then: I suppose you are being paid by your company to make the page? If so, you are required to disclose it, and then follow the instructions at our guide for managing conflicts of interest and WP:PAID. When these hurdles are overcome, please keep the following in mind: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, which means that it is not interested in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is only interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. More info can be found here. Regards. Lectonar (talk) 15:25, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
I shall answer to your e-mail here, as I like to keep things as open as possible. Wikipedia is, with very little exceptions, run by volunteers. So there is no contributor I would know where you could make an order for an article to be written; the nearest we got is this, but if (supposing the studio is notable or when an article can or will be written I can not say. Regards. Lectonar (talk) 08:11, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

Ban them all, is that your plan?[edit]

So I see you have taken the knee jerk reaction to indefinitely stop all IP editing P&O Ferries because of a bit of hoo har after the decision by its owner, a Dubai equity company, to sack 800 staff (many of which have been with the ferry company longer than you have edited this site). Wow considering the only people who ever make any meaningful contributions on this site are IPs (leaving the rest of you to have your edit wars and nonsense arguments) banning IPs forever from editing that page shows a great deal of short-sightedness and ham-fistedness. In six months this issue would have all blown over but since don't seem to be able to conceive that, you unimaginatively ban IPs forever is incredibly lazy and pathetic.146.200.202.126 (talk) 20:35, 18 March 2022 (UTC)

Well, I just did an honest mistake...I wanted to protectect for 3 days (as has been mentioned in the response to the request for protection), but it came out as infinite. This has been remedied now, just 3 more days and the article is free to edit again. There is no need to rant off, a polite query would have had the same effect. Regards. Lectonar (talk) 08:17, 21 March 2022 (UTC)

Cheri DiNovo[edit]

Hi, Lectonar. Thanks for unprotecting Cheri DiNovo! I think you may have forgotten to unprotect its talk page, however. Graham (talk) 05:15, 24 March 2022 (UTC)

@Graham11: Indeed I did, thx for the heads-up. I somehow seem to remember that in olden times talk-pages were automatically unprotected when one lifted the article-protection. It's done now. Lectonar (talk) 08:04, 24 March 2022 (UTC)
@Graham11: The icon for protection would have been removed automagically, of that I am sure now :). Lectonar (talk) 08:34, 24 March 2022 (UTC)
Haha, I assumed it would be! I was getting rid of the custom semi-protection banner they had on the page, so I figured I might as well delete the lock icon while I was at it. Graham (talk) 08:41, 24 March 2022 (UTC)

Question from MichelleBoehm (06:09, 7 April 2022)[edit]

Hi there! Hoping you can help me with my question. I am a new user and edited about 30 articled before having a go at writing one myself! I have put up the Handmade Canberra Market page and it's been flagged with "NPOV", which I totally understand given the comments left in the talk (use of the words 'successfully' and 'encouraged'). My question now is, how do I go about getting that NPOV removed? I have reviewed it and don't believe there are any further non-neutral words, but I am not sure how I get *permission* to do so, because it kind of feels like it wouldn't be right to remove it myself. Keen to find out how to do it before looking if there are any other articles I could contribute. Thanks so much. Michelle --MichelleBoehm (talk) 06:09, 7 April 2022 (UTC)

Hello @MichelleBoehm:, nice to have you as an editor here on Wikipedia, and brave of you to try your hand at writing articles. Actually you need no permission to take out anything; every page is essentially editable by everyone. But I agree with the user who put up the NPOV template, even going so far as calling the tone of the article "marketing speechy" . I have endeavoured to cut the article down to what I think makes it neutral. The parts I took out read indeed like they were advertising the market and other things in relation to the market :). I also have taken out the Award section, as we should ideally only include awards which have Wikipedia articles themselves. Please also read our policy regarding conflict of interest, and act accordingly if necessary. Wikipedia is not interested in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is only interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources.. Cheers and happy editing. Lectonar (talk) 14:02, 7 April 2022 (UTC)

Thank you so much. I guess I didn't realise that the article could be so short! I tried fleshing it out a bit (based on how long the articles I was editing were) and I wonder if maybe I did myself a disservice by setting a personal goal of editing 30 pages before writing one, because most of the articles I edited had been flagged for sounding like an advertisement. So maybe I will go and spend some time reading articles that have no problems so I can hear more of what a neutral article sounds like, before I have a go at writing another. Thanks so much! MichelleBoehm (talk) 18:32, 7 April 2022 (UTC)

Question from Skys a Blu (17:39, 11 April 2022)[edit]

Hi, Im an artist/Singer trying to build my knowledge panel on Google which requires info about me on Wikipedia. Could you please assist. --Skys a Blu (talk) 17:39, 11 April 2022 (UTC)

Hello, please read this for starters. So you shouldn't write about yourself :). Also Wikipedia is not a platform for advertising and the like, it is an encyclopedia. So, it is not interested in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is only interested in what people who have no connection with the subject have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. Regards. Lectonar (talk) 10:09, 12 April 2022 (UTC)

Question from Beatlemania2002 (11:59, 30 April 2022)[edit]

Hi, I was editing this page. And someone removed their birthplace and middle name. I explained to them that it was their birthplace and middle name. And they deleted it and I put it back. I don’t think it’s gonna harm anything. But this editor thought it was unsourced but the sources tell you her middle name and birthplace. --Beatlemania2002 (talk) 11:59, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

Dietrich III von Isenberg[edit]

For starters, there should never be the need to move a page on enwiki to somehow match Wikidata. In this case, you seem to have merged two distinctly different persons (some years apart), making a mess at Wikidata and linking the enwiki article to the wrong Wikidata person. Can you please undo your changes (here and there)? Fram (talk) 10:56, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for that, message and fixing parts of it...I knew something was wrong, but spent the last days in hospital. Funny enough, when I did the interlanguage link, it went to the right page. I will try to fix that now. Lectonar (talk) 07:27, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
And I can't publish changes in Wikidata now, it seems, so I am lost. Sorry about that. Lectonar (talk) 07:32, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
Only managed to delete the false interwiki. Lectonar (talk) 07:34, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

New Fart Times[edit]

The New York Times Best Seller list .. I don't think this user cares about autoconfirm, they only care about getting it on record how they see it and causing disruption. Are we to be left continually reverting forever? The only thing that has worked is article protection. -- GreenC 14:15, 12 June 2022 (UTC)

Well, it is pending changes protected now...so it's not a question of reverting tbh, but just of accepting or not accepting an edit. The great plus is that the dits do not go "live". Cheers and happy editing. Lectonar (talk) 06:46, 13 June 2022 (UTC)

The Voice (franchise)[edit]

Hi,

I wanted to request for another protection for the article of The Voice (franchise) to avoid vandalism and unwanted edits to the page, hopefully it will be total locked where confirmed users were able to edit the page.

Cheers!

Thanks, Ayeespino (talk) 12:12, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

The usual place to request something like that would be here. That said, after having looked at the article, there is not enough recent disruption to warrant another page-protection. Please read our protection policy if you haven't done so already. In short: the aim of protection is to prevent and stop recent vandalism/disruption, but not to permanently restrict the editing of articles (there are exceptions of course; some rare pages will never go beneath an ecp-protection). Wikipedia still is the encyclopedia that every one can and should edit, even non-confirmed editors/IPs. So protection is the exception, not the rule. Regards. Lectonar (talk) 12:36, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

How do you move a long then? 2 more users reverted your edits before I did so, so you need someone to actually say they think your edit(s) are an inprovement, more or less. Consensus doesn't build in just some days, and discussion is already underway. Just be patient. Regards. Lectonar (talk) 06:26, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

Pla[edit]

Hi Lectonar, in this edit I changed PLA to PLA (disambiguation) because of WP:INTDABLINK - intentional links to disambiguation pages should always go through a title including (disambiguation), even if that title is a redirect. Leschnei (talk) 18:24, 3 August 2022 (UTC)

Question from 500problems[edit]

It's constructive to point out the obvious. If White Pride is a problem, then Black Power is. It's discrimination, and it will always stay discrimination. Just because I point that out doesn't mean I'm not being constructive. I am constructive because I am pointing out the obvious... Or are you picking a side and deciding what gets shown on Wikipedia and what doesn't get shown? NPOV is completely thrown under the rug when it concerns social issues and political jargon.

My question is, why do you have authority over what's constructive? Why did you revert the discrimination article in the Black Power article? 500problems (talk) 20:18, 11 August 2022 (UTC)

I said it would be nice to have a constructive discussion, that's all. concsensus is what we strive to achieve; the whole is laid down under WP:BRD. See also discussion at the talk-page. Regards. Lectonar (talk) 06:27, 12 August 2022 (UTC)

My Son Hunter request for semi-protection[edit]

You denied a request (here [1] for semi-protection on the My Son Hunter page and you advised me to "Warn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue." Well, I wish it were only 1 wiki account, but it's not. Just in the last 24 hours, the below listed Wiki users (IPs) have caused a high amount of disruptive editing & several wiki editors have been having to revert their edits & giving them warnings on their talk pages. But, the disruptive editing doesn't seem to be letting up. Since so many IPs (or people) are involved, what do you advise I do to help protect that page from continual disruption?

Here's the list of disruptors from just the last 24 hours:

Please advise me on if there's anything I can do to mitigate any disruption. Thanks BetsyRMadison (talk) 20:56, 29 August 2022 (UTC)

When I looked at it, there was just one perpetetrator which stuck out, hence the decline with pointing to AIV. The article has been protected in the meantime. Lectonar (talk) 07:05, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

AfC & Edit Protection[edit]

Hi @Lectonar: thank you for getting to my request! I have a question since I'm still learning the ropes of AfC. Since edit protection should only be lifted after I accept an AfC submission, what's the best way for me to accept an AfC submission that is currently edit protected? I don't want to accept drafts and move them to mainspace under a different page title, since that just creates an unnecessary redirect. BuySomeApples (talk) 20:01, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

Afaics, the draft isn't edit protected at all, so the submisson can be accepted when deemed ready for mainspace. Once that is done, ping me or make a new request for unprotection. Lectonar (talk) 07:13, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

September 2022[edit]

Thanks for your page protection at 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. There is currently an editor User:Jirka who is reverting against multiple editors in order to force his version on an edit into the article. He appears to be dedicating himself to making serial reverts to force his edit into the article even though Talk page discussion is still unresolved. He has been contacted on his Talk page by multiple editors and seems not to stop reverting. Could you look at this when you have a chance. ErnestKrause (talk) 14:43, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

It's already being processed at the edit-warring noticeboard; let's see if this will bear fruit. At need, the article can be fully protected unless consensus is found. Lectonar (talk) 14:48, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

Request[edit]

Hi, you are my mentor and you are administrator: I request your action for a neutral version of article Josip Broz Tito. I discussed this problem in Wikipedia:Neutral point of view/Noticeboard#Broz Tito dictator but it is not good page for this case. I explain: during last four years I put reliable sources which affirm crimes made by dictator Josip Broz but always sources were removed by accounts which make disruption and recently sources added by me were removed by an administrator who was in contact with me using related article's discussion, messages on personal discussion and email. The admin is user:Peacemaker67 and I have problem for understand what he wants by me and I don't understand his reasons for disruption against reliable sources added by me. I request your intervention as mediator between me and that Australian guy. Ciao Forza bruta (talk) 17:35, 16 September 2022 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Just engage on the talk page, explain why your sources are reliable, and we will work out appropriate wording. This is just forum-shopping, and it isn’t going to end well if you keep edit-warring your preferred wording into the article. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 00:20, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
done, I start section in Talk:Josip Broz Tito#Agan disruption. I request your inervention as mediator in that page because I can write bad names versus somebody in my own Italian language. Ciao--Forza bruta (talk) 05:57, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
@Forza bruta: "I have problem for understand what he wants by me" even though I believe you exactly know what they want from you, competence is required to edit Wikipedia. "I can write bad names versus somebody in my own Italian language." if you're suggesting you're looking forward to making more personal attacks, that's a great way to get yourself blocked from editing even quicker. -Vipz (talk) 00:21, 28 September 2022 (UTC)
@Forza bruta: Hi...being your mentor doesn't necessarily mean I must always be on your side :). You did well in bringing this to the appropriate talk-page. If you can't come to a consensus in discussing with the other party and there is a standstill...try getting a third opinion. If this fails also: dispute resolution has steps beyond the talk-page discussion to be tried. Lectonar (talk) 13:04, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
Probably an agreement between me and that Australian admin is impossible because he pretends to decide reliable sources only under his opinion and honestly I don't understand other revert after my edit.--Forza bruta (talk) 17:41, 27 September 2022 (UTC)

User Vipz[edit]

I have already reported the provoking behaviour of user:Vipz in ANI but no result! Obviously he continues to revert at sight my contributions: you can see other provocation and other provocation. He does not know Yugoslav history and he is blatant POV because always removes contents that claim crimes of dictator Josip Broz: he removed even image of Josip Broz in article dictatorship! That guy damages the articles and someone has to make him understand, besides he provokes me all the time: I didn't put the image of the dictator Broz in focussed article, but that guy is a disruptor versus sources and versus images! Someone has to intervene for defend this project against disruption by him. Forza bruta. (talk) 11:45, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

Your reason to reject protection request[edit]

Hello Lectonar. Thanks for replying to my protection request for FC Schalke 04. You rejected the request. That's fair enough, I guess we can handle it manually, but I'm confused about your reasoning. You wrote that "two or so disruptive edits per day are enough disruption to warrant protection". There have been six such edits in three days; that makes two per day. Could you explain then why that led you to reject it? Renerpho (talk) 02:03, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

Did you mean to say "are not enough disruption"? (Not that I necessarily agree with it, but it would make sense semantically...) Renerpho (talk) 02:09, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

Request/question from Wassersalat[edit]

Dear Lectonar,

I came across your talk page by searching for translators. You seem to be listed as a german <-> English translator. Ive successfully built my first article about the Berky company in Germany (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berky) and want to translate it or convert it to the english wikipedia platform. Ive already tried the wiki translation tool but it seems I am not experienced enough to use the tool and to convert the german article. Can you give some advice on translating the article to the english encyclopedia? Maybe you could help me by using the translation tool yourself? Or can I simply copy and paste the source code from the german article to create a new one and translate the text myself?

Thanks in advance! Kind regards

Wassersalat

However, there has been one suggestion that I have been wanting to make for a fairly. Could you please put this in the talk page, on my behalf maybe?

"Since ChatGPT was created, the world has found hundreds of use cases for it. Although a few of the prominent ones are mentioned in the ChatGPT article, I think it would be very useful if there could be a separate wikipedia page titled "Well-known use cases of ChatGPT" to summarise the information — in say a list form. This information is currently spread out across the internet and thus not very accessible to people."

Thank you! Socialworker2022 (talk) 17:19, 27 January 2023 (UTC)

@Socialworker2022: Sure, I could do that, but I think I have another idea, not necessarily better, but something for you to work upon...so you get autoconfirmed yourself after some more editing. I have created a draft page at Draft:Well-known use cases of ChatGPT...edit away :). Lectonar (talk) 08:58, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
See also Wikipedia talk:Using neural network language models on Wikipedia/List of uses of ChatGPT at Wikipedia. Definitely a work in progress. Mathglot (talk) 21:51, 30 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi. How do I upload a photograph onto a Wikipedia page? I've been updating my authors page, and I can't find out how to upload a photo. Thanks --Holly Flynn (talk) 14:56, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

Question from Mast303 (02:53, 4 February 2023)[edit]

When and why do I follow 1RR instead of 3RR? On some pages, it says that ArbCom sanctions require editors to follow WP:1RR. Explain this. Mast303 (talk) 02:53, 4 February 2023 (UTC)

The answer is in the link to 1RR you provided...if there is an indication that the page is under 1RR restrictions (usually on the talk-page), then don't do more than 1 revert. Regards. Lectonar (talk) 10:30, 6 February 2023 (UTC)

Morning. COuld you check the protection i placed? -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 13:11, 27 February 2023 (UTC)

@Deepfriedokra: Good afternoon :)...well, I probably would have placed warnings about edit-warring and hints about the use of article-talk for forming consensus on the participants talk-pages, and only fully protected when they don't stop, but full protection is cutting straight to the core, and will have the same effect. Well within admin's discretion. Lectonar (talk) 13:17, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. There was some discussion on my talk. I was afraid of exacerbating their exasperation. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 15:55, 27 February 2023 (UTC)

Aivazovsky page protection[edit]

Hey! I see you've put a temporary protection on the Aivazovsky page. Seems like the Armenian non-consensus edit snuck in before that. Could you edit that back as well? Thanks. ZivDero (talk) 14:00, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

@ZivDero: See the article talk-page please. Lectonar (talk) 14:03, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
I did. Until a consensus is reached though, shouldn't it be left in its original state? ZivDero (talk) 14:06, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
No, the article is frozen in the moment of protection. The protecting admin is not an arbiter as to what constitutes the "original" state or the "correct" version, and changing it to another version might make him involved. Lectonar (talk) 14:12, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

Question from DiverseWorks (20:15, 23 March 2023)[edit]

Hi! I have made the required 10 edits, When will I be hearing back about my auto-confirmed status? --DiverseWorks (talk) 20:15, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi...see WP:AUTOCONFIRMED...once you try to perform an action which only autoconfirmed users can perform, you are checked automatically. There will be no message as such. Lectonar (talk) 08:01, 24 March 2023 (UTC)

2023 Canberra Raiders season[edit]

I made an edit request there, but was told my request would be better at other locations, so I'll be discussing with you. Copying the comment I left:

This should be restored to an article and never should have been protected in the first place. We have now 1 (Lachlan Carr) 2 (ChampsRT) 3 (Local Potentate) and 4 (myself) editors disputing the repeated redirection by one user (Onel5969), which should never have happened - when a redirect is contested it needs to be discussed at AFD or similar venues unless there is a major issue immediately requiring it to be removed from mainspace, which there is not here. Onel5969 cited the previous AFD as the reason to restore the redirect; however, something that is very important to note is that the "delete" result there as well as the ensuing declines of this in draftspace are because of TOOSOON issues, i.e. because the season had not happened yet. The season is currently underway, with Canberra having played several games already, and so this redirect should be restored into an article. If anyone believes it is non-notable, it must be taken to AFD again as the original AFD's concern no longer applies.

Protection has been lowered to semi. Cheers and happy editing. Lectonar (talk) 11:54, 3 April 2023 (UTC)

Translation request[edit]

Hello Lectonar, I was wondering if you would be able to translate part of a sentence from German to English for me. (I found your name at WP:TRLA.) It is, Sonst verlieren sich ein paar iranische Geschäftsleute in der „Homa“-Kabine,... The sentence is in this article.

I am researching this flight for the Iran Air article. I didn't understand the Google translation of the above sentence; it says that those passengers "got lost"? Thank you for your time. Sunnya343 (talk) 02:16, 9 April 2023 (UTC)

@Sunnya343: This is idiomatic german for "to vanish" in the sense of a space is so big/wast that you vanish in it/you cannot be seen. I would go for something like:"Some Iranian business people are scattered in the "Homa-cabin". Lectonar (talk) 06:17, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
Thank you very much! Sunnya343 (talk) 14:41, 11 April 2023 (UTC)

Anecdote alert[edit]

Anecdote alert. On 14 June 2014, as I was on a bicycle ride, I saw two German backpackers (how did I know this? because they had the Schwarz-Rot-Gold flag on their backpacks) walking down Fitzroy Street in St Kilda. I decided to eavesdrop on their conversation, to see if I could pick up what they were talking about with my rudimentary German. Turned out that I understood exactly what they were talking about. They decided a tour of Australia wouldn't be complete without a visit to Uluru, but was fully in accordance with the traditional owners' wishes for people not to climb "Ayers Rock" and more complexities. Oh pants, I forgot to mention why I understood their conversation. Because these two German backpacker dudes were talking to each other in English.--Shirt58 (talk) 🦘 11:23, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
@Shirt58:...lol, I was puzzling about that, and tried to find a hidden meaning I had missed :). Lectonar (talk) 06:39, 22 May 2023 (UTC)
I also forgot to mention that both of these dudes had mullets (the hairstyle, not the fish Ordo) way, way before it became popular again in Australia.--Shirt58 (talk) 🦘 10:35, 26 May 2023 (UTC)

David Caron talk page[edit]

Hi Lectonar, I saw you changed the visibility of that vandalism at Talk:David Caron, but for some reason it didn't seem to take. I reverted the page to before the vandalism and the IP's addition is still visible. Also, considering that the previous protection was for 1 month, and the same vandal returned to add the same libelous claims, would a longer period of protection be appropriate this time? Wes sideman (talk) 12:07, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up...I tend to forget that the protection itself counts as edit too...so the visibility problem should be fixed now. I am looking into a rangeblock to solve the problem, as I am rather loath to kind of perma-protect talk-pages of any kind. Lectonar (talk) 12:20, 6 June 2023 (UTC)
Copy that, whatever you think is best. Just wanted to give you a heads-up. Wes sideman (talk) 12:23, 6 June 2023 (UTC)
With some serious help from zzuuzz I was able to do the rangeblock myself; I will let the protection stand, though, in case they get ideas. I have watchlisted, too. Cheers and happy editing. Lectonar (talk) 12:29, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

@PamD: I can't really remember why I didn't lift the move protection about 16 years ago, but at the time we had a famous vandal moving pages around haphazardly and randomly, so this might be an attempt at an explanation. Question from AnnMacnaughton on Superior Oil Company (08:54, 8 October 2023)[edit]

Hello. I am former legal counsel to The Superior Oil Company (“TSOC”). omission of “The” was a common error during the company’s operating years. I have corrected the article by inserting the omitted “The” everywhere I spotted the omission, but cannot see how to correct it on the title of the page itself? --AnnMacnaughton (talk) 08:54, 8 October 2023 (UTC)

@AnnMacnaughton:. For that, you would have to request a move on the article talk-page; keep in mind that you will need sources to back up your request. Then, have a thorough read of our rules for conflict of interest which has a specific meaning here on Wikipedia. Further, concerning your question about your username, see Wikipedia:Changing username. Regards. Lectonar (talk) 13:21, 9 October 2023 (UTC)

RFPP follow up[edit]

Hi Lectonar, a bot archived my page protection request [13] for Divya Dwivedi before I could finish typing my response to your comment; I also had to sleep in the interim, so I apologize for the delay. But for whatever it is worth: there has been an article talk page discussion, and the disputed content had remained in the article because I am abiding by 3RR, even though I think my reverts are covered by a BLP exception, due to the unsourced contentious content.

The IP's talk page participation includes calling me "obtuse" [14], [15], and using bold font to emphasize [16] what from my view shows the text they added is not supported. I tried to explain how the material appears to generally be covered in the same section, and what from my view are significant BLP considerations due to the context based on multiple sources.

From my view, this does not seem unusual in CTOP articles - another article I recently asked to be protected has ongoing IP and new editor activity on the article talk page behaving somewhat similarly, but they are unable to add poorly sourced and unsourced contentious content to the BLP article because the article is protected. From my view, misrepresentation of Dwivedi seems fairly routine in the article history, because she is a subject of controversy and harassment (according to multiple sources), and my hope was the recent persistent attempts to add unsourced contentious content, and other IP activity in the article since PP expired, would support a request to continue protecting this article.

As an epilogue, another IP editor has started participating, and based on one of their edit summaries and edits, seems to recognize the complexity of the content issue [17]. If the first IP continues to revert unsourced contentious content into the article, I will plan on making a report to AN3. Thank you, Beccaynr (talk) 19:23, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

Hello, I see your point. But I prefer to interfere as little as possible with people being able to edit, even editing by IPs. So yes, reporting people/IPs to noticeboards is a better solution than protecting whole pages. It's a bit like shooting at sparrows with cannon. Lectonar (talk) 13:28, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, Lectonar, and I appreciate your approach. Previously, the disruption in this and the other article I referred to had been more widespread and persistent, but in this latest episode, the circumstances were different. I realize now that my involvement in the article, including the past and recent content issues, shifted my focus to a more proactive request than for what page protection is intended, so I very much appreciate your uninvolved perspective and your suggestion of an alternative more tailored for the situation. Thanks again, Beccaynr (talk) 16:54, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Peer review[edit]

can you start a peer review for BAF Shaheen College Dhaka ? 103.230.106.39 (talk) 15:32, 20 November 2023 (UTC)

No, as I am not a reviewer, and, tbh, I am not even sure there should be an article about this institution in Wikipedia. I do not see anything so far that makes it notable in the Wikipedia-sense. The article tells me that institution exists, and that's about it. Regards- Btw. it would be nice if you could declare a conflict of interest if you have one. Lectonar (talk) 15:39, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
I have no connection with this institution. But it is definitely a notable institution in Bangladesh. Many sources added recently to this article and prove that its definitely notable. You can check.
