Long overdue, wound up making Powell Lake because of brag on Quesnel Lake page about it being supposedly the world's deepest fjord lake (only valid if the term "measured" is included, given that Seton Lake is at least 2000' deep and Quesnel is c.610m measured, and t here's Atlin, Chilko, Harrison, Owikeno - and Powell.....).

Was wondering if you'd care to do the Israel Wood Powell bio that's redlinked; basic details are on http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcgn-bin/bcg10?name=16198 but there's lots on him out there in legal history because of the Powell Commission; same idea as Peter O'Reilly, or rather the O'Reilly Commission - each could/should have its own page because of the various reserves that were created/cancelled/reduced (which is my whole piont about why IR articles are separate entities from FN/band articles).

Lots of categories would apply to him; pre-confederation BC people, educators, politician, doctor etc etc.

Encyc BC b 27 Apr 1836 Port Colborn, On, d 25 Feb 1915, Victoria. McGill grad in medicine 1860, then moved to Vancouver, 2 years later to Victoria and opened a medical office. Elected colonial leg 1863 to 1866. Supported confed. GM masons 1867 to 1875. Declined offer to be first LG. Supt Indian Affairs 1872-89. Criticized provincial aboriginal policy, supported larger reserves. Chancellor of UBC from 1890 and involved in its planning.^[1]
