About me[edit]

I'm a sedimentologist (geologist) working towards his PhD in Utrecht. My research interests are: clay/silt sedimentology, application of clay minerals in reconstructing past climates/environments, Milankovitch cyclicity in Mesozoic sedimentary rocks and causes for enhanced organic matter content in black shales (Oceanic Anoxic Events in particular). I'm particularly interested in the terrigenous fraction of pelagic sediments.

As part of my professional activities I teach. I give a practical course on "Sedimentary Systems" (basic sedimentology/stratigraphy for 2nd year BSc students), a course on "Geological History of the North Sea" (3rd year BSc), a "Sedimentology Lab" course (3rd year BSc) and a fieldwork course (2nd year BSc) in Spain.

I originally come from Portugal but I've lived for quite some time in the Netherlands.

If you have any questions (also on sedimentology) or comments, feel free to leave a message on my discussion page!
