The Netai massacre case, also known as the Netai murder case, was a seminal event during Left front government was in power in the state West Bengal, India. On January 7, 2011 nine villagers of Netai were killed on open fire by CPI(M) members at Netai village, West Midnapore district of West Bengal. It was claimed by some eye-witnessess of the village that the CPI(M) supporters "harmads" had open fired on villagers from the roof of the local CPI(M) leader Rathin Dandapat's two storey house.
Clarify[edit]
On January 2011, Armed CPI-M candidates had set up a camp in the local CPI-M leader Rathin Dandapat's two storey house and had threatened and stated an open intention to harm the villagers if they won't participate in the armed training camp. Later that day Anuj Pandey, ex, ex, ex, ex, ex had fired indiscriminately on nine villagers, including three women and killed them.
Accused[edit]
The main accused was Anuj Pandey a former CPI(M) Binpur zonal committee secretary.
Background[edit]
Initially the case was investigated by the CID when the Calcutta High Court under the division bench of Cheif Justice J N Patel and Justice Asim Kumar Roy ordered the State Government to handover the case to CBI.
