Speedy deletion nomination of Category:German circus performers[edit]

A tag has been placed on Category:German circus performers requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. GOCE copyedit request for George Harrison Barbour[edit]

  • His first ancestor that immigrated to the New World was Thomas Barber in 1634, who settled in Simsbury, Connecticut, which was near Windsor. It is recorded that Thomas built the first church there. At first read the sentences seem separate, but I'm guessing that it is important to note his ancestor built the first church in Windsor?
Yes, that is correct = it is important to note his ancestor built the first church in Windsor.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 10:02, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
Done. I'll assume that the citations at the end of the paragraph cite the church.
  • Barbour had learned his sales skills from running the general store at Collinsville in his youth. I'm not sure how this sentence provides any new information about his life; it can be implied?
O.K. You are correct. You can remove this sentence. That's why I have a professional set of eyes look over the article. To pick up on things like this and correct them accordingly.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 10:02, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
 Done. Removed.
  • It was Barbour's idea to build a giant Garland kitchen range to represent the company at the fair and he passed the idea onto Dwyer. Barbour happened to be on the national board of the Chicago Fair so came up with the idea to build the 15-ton giant replica. Edited the sentences a little already, but does Barbour happening to be on the national board really have anything to do with coming up with the idea?
After looking at the newspaper clip reference [8] again, my impression is that it does. By the fact of being on the board he was exposed to ideas of how others promoted items. I get the impression some others at the Fair made a giant representation, so the concept of "giant" was placed into Barbour's head. An example would be the giant Ferris Wheel ride and the Mammoth and Giant Octopus, displayed in picture here on right. A mammoth and giant octopus model in 1893 at the World’s Fair is shown here again at Relics of the World's Fair:Chicago. Another giant item at the 1893 World's Fair that Barbour was likely exposed to was this giant trunk of a tree, Sequoia gigantea.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 10:17, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
 Done.

Hope to hear from you soon! --Tenryuu 🐲💬 • 📝) 03:46, 2 April 2020 (UTC)

Howdy[edit]

Hi Doug, how goes it in your neck of the woods? Recently I got myself a second computer, an ACER Laptop, and it's internet ready. Currently I am logged on with my other (desktop) rig. I was about to also log on with my laptop but was wondering if it's copasetic to log on with two different rigs using the same account? As a man with four computers I thought you might know. Will that cause issues with the WP system, or with the WP staff, administrators, etc? Figured I check with you first. Hope all is well, -- Gwillhickers (talk) 20:49, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

@Gwillhickers: I do believe I can answer that. It so happens that I run THREE PCs at the same time - all the time! No problems. Yes, you CAN log in to your account from many computers at the same time and it does NOT present a problem to the Wikipedia system. At this very moment I am on 3 PCs at the same time editing multiple things (i.e. 2 GA noms at once and upgrading other articles for GANs). Take a look at my contributions and you will see what I am talking about. The last several hundred edits from the last few days have come from my 2 Toshibas and 1 HP computer = 3 PCs. I am answering you on my HP and editing Haskell Manufacturing Company at the same time. I will click BOTH mouses of the PCs at the same time and it will show the edits at the same exact time (microseconds apart). There has never been an issue with any administrators or any editors (some of who know I have multiple PCs, like User:Dr Blofeld. I have been doing this for many years. All it does is speed up editing and making DYKs - I have a few and am working on making 100 GAs. To make it interesting I will click on all 3 PC mouses and have THREE edits at exactly the same time, but on 3 different items. Check out my contributions. All is going well here in Ludington, Michigan--Doug Coldwell (talk) 21:28, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
Well, I guess that answers that. Thanks for a very comprehensive 'yes you can'. :-)  — How are things in Michigan with the Corona-virus? Let's hope all the safe guards in place nips this in the bud. Makes one think about our carefree life styles. Keep well, -- Gwillhickers (talk) 21:55, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
I do believe the important thing now-a-days is the "social distancing" idea. We will have to keep doing that until medical technology catches up. Michigan in general is doing better than a few days ago and has dropped down the on the list of the most active states of coronavirus. I used to live in San Diego for some 20 years = real estate broker. Home prices are probably dropping in California now. You will find that using multiple computers will speed up things to make your Wikipedia edits quicker. Your mind CAN cope with multiple PCs at the same time WITH multiple browsers going at the same time on each PC (i.e. Wikipedia, Flickr, 2 email accounts, google, google books, web surfing). No problem!!--Doug Coldwell (talk) 22:26, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
@Gwillhickers: - How are the 2 PCs working out? --Doug Coldwell (talk) 20:09, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
Well, the FBI hasn't kicked my door down yet. :-) -- Gwillhickers (talk) 20:12, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Greetings again[edit]

Congratulations on the GA and DYK awards for the Jackob Nacken article. Sorry I wasn't around to help promote it to GA. I just checked my email and have received your advice on getting DYK's nominated, per "Proof that Ancient Greek philosophy works". These days I don't check my email as much as I used to because my family and friends keep in touch by text. I'll have to get back on track with the email checking more often. Yes, I've always used linked sources for the hooks, and of course for the other items. In the future, if you are trying to get a given article to GA, or FA, let me know and I'll be happy to help, and of course address any items that come up, and also lend support as is needed, on a nomination page. 'Best -- Gwillhickers (talk) 00:36, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

@Gwillhickers: Thanks. Nacken received 24,845 views for the DYK. My previous DYK of the World's Oldest Postcard got 9,271 views. Of course both of these will be put into the DYK Hall of Fame. Lately I have been working hard on Linda Finch to get her ready for Good Article nomination. I have found a lot of newspaper references on her, so have been bouncing off those. News clips make good references. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 10:11, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
