Contributions to the musical sections of Wikipedia are very important and often go long periods without significant updates. In an effort to assist with some of the more outdated articles, this user will examine articles related to recent events, musicians, and other related topics to help clean up some of the missing citations or outdated information.

During any given year, there are a number of events that generally gain widespread media coverage however most of the information is reported through eye witness accounts or unverifiable claims that do not offer proof or citations to back the information presented. Pieces on festival events, specific concert tours, quotes from musicians, etc. are usually just submitted by fans but do not reference an appropriate article or authority source. Efforts will be made to supply a stronger source of information should a claim be made, especially in reference to human relationships (love interests), feuds, band splits or other "hearsay" that can sometimes be mostly rumor and not verifiable fact.

Band history is a particularly interesting subject but many articles do not have sufficient information or citations, so it will be important to try and assist with these using verified sources. This does not require a "degree in music" but it does require diligence and ongoing effort to gain the knowledge necessary to help with these types of pages. The media often sensationalizes a news story to gain attention which can dilute or hide the facts. Many of the facts are only revealed months or even years after a specific event. Today, social media is allowing the average user to record and event or report on an event outside of the news media, which has created an interesting dynamic in the way news is reported or verified.

It may be prudent to consider a new approach to the way in which facts are verified when it comes to bands or musical artists. Social media is becoming the new "news outlet" and it might actually be worth considering references to direct quotes or statements made by a musical artist on one of their official social media profiles. This could help establish credibility as what else is more credible than directly from the source? Most high-profile artists have their pages verified so it would be rather easy to confirm the veracity of claims that have been made, especially when it comes to the addition or subtraction of new band members and also tour announcements.

Official brands or businesses associated with a band or artist could also be worth mentioning, such as a clothing line or official music sponsorship. It would help enhance up some of the articles that seem to lack any information about a person or band other than what kind of music they play or simply an outline on their band/artist history.
