I recently searched for some telephone area codes and was surprised when I got links to three digit year articles.

Perhaps my memory is clouded. I remember disambiguation pages for three digit numbers--but again, I might be wrong.

I find it odd, however, that two area code searches took me to the articles about three digit years and these articles lacked hat notes to disambiguation pages.

Digging a bit deeper I found the template Year dab whose purpose is clear:

...to put disambiguation links at the top of year articles, such as 2020. It explains that the article is about the year and if it exists, it links to the number and a disambiguation page.

I think that means that the template {{Year dab will display the disambiguation page only if that page exists... But I think this Year dab is using a heuristic; it's relying on a naming convention.

But again, I might be wrong.
