Chiemezie Atama holds a PhD in Sociology. She is a Senior Lecture and a researcher at the Department of Sociology & Anthropology University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Her areas of research interest include Population, Gender and Development. Chiemezie has taken part in both national and international research. She is a Senior Research Fellow at Gender and Development Studies Research Group at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. She is currently working with a team on a research titled “Promoting positive masculinity for sexual and reproductive health and rights and gender equality in informal settlements in selected cities in sub-Saharan Africa”, funded by IDRC. In 2016, she was part of the team that carried out longitudinal evaluation of Women for Women International-Nigeria’s (WfWI-N) Men Engagement Program (MEP) to promote women’s rights and create a gender-balanced society. Some of her works, which involved the use of qualitative and quantitative methods, have been published in peer-reviewed journals. She is also the Founding Director Equity Watch Initiative [E-WIN], a non-governmental organization that is committed to promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls.
