Hi Andy[edit]

  • Hello Andy and thanx for welcoming me. This is MENJ You're the same Andy of blog "Witty Squirrel" aren't you? Seems we have more things in common than I thought :) Anyway I am interested to work on the entries you proposed on the Malaysian page. Where shall we begin? 04/11/04 11:55 am how the heck did u include the time? I had to do this manually :( Menj 11:11, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)

G'day mate[edit]

How ya going? I've reverted your changes to the exploding whale page... not because of any personal reason however! It's just we need the references section as it is because we need to be able to say we cited information from specific sources. The external links section is like a further reading for interested readers of the article: a bonus if you will! A good example of a half-complete reference list is at Mark Latham. - Ta bu shi da yu 02:43, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Insanity[edit]

Hey Andy, I hope you weren't offended by my commments on Talk:2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. There were certainly dozens of bizarre moments that I could have picked out to illustrate the churn of the article. I think I may have developed a new pet peeve, listing individuals in the midst of large events. I had just written the "if you are looking for a missing family member" section at Humanitarian response to the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake so was looking through those websites just before I found that half of the Thai article was now a description of two individuals... and spent half the day on a rampage against similar entries. Anyway, just thought I'd make sure. I hope you and your family are well there in Malaysia. BanyanTree 08:09, 30 Dec 2004 (UTC)

paniq on VfD[edit]

Hey Andy— There is an interesting discussion regarding paniq over on VfD. I was hoping you could review the article and perhaps contribute a vote? —RaD Man (talk) 16:57, 11 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Problem with your million pool guess[edit]

Your guess on Wikipedia:Million pool of May 4, 2006, is in conflict with an earlier guess by Tipiac. Please change it or convince Tipiac to change his. -- Cyrius| 00:43, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

More schools on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion[edit]

As of March 25, 2005, there are an additional (6) articles listed for deletion under the POV notion that schools are non-notable (even though this is invalid reasoning as per the Wikipedia deletion policy). Please be aware that the following schools are actively being discussed and voted upon:

In response to this cyclical ordeal, a Schoolwatch programme has been initiated in order to indentify school-related articles which may need improvement and to help foster and encourage continued organic growth. Your comments are welcome and I thank you again for your time. --GRider\talk

re: striking out VfD votes[edit]

In a recent VfD discussion, you asked me not to remove the strike-out of a vote that you found to have been made in bad faith. I briefly replied in the discussion thread but also wanted to reply to you here.

According to WP:GVFD, you did the right thing by creating a sub-bullet to the comment showing your findings about the user and his/her attempt to spoof a user account. That sub-bullet was sufficient to make sure that the deciding admin recognizes that the vote was made in bad faith. Every deciding admin I know would see your comment and discount the anonymous vote.

Unfortunately, our experience on the VfD discussion pages has shown that the extra step of striking out the invalidated vote does more harm than good on average.

  • The troll who made the invalid vote responds with accusations of "censorship" and "disenfranchisement". Everyone tries to ignore the ranting but it wears on you after a while. (Oddly, the trolls don't seem to react nearly so badly to the sub-bullet even though it is even more damning to their claim. I've never figured out why.)
  • Meanwhile, users who are relatively new to the VfD process look at the page and see the stricken votes and don't understand the practice or the standard that led to the strike-out. They assume that VfD is an even more hostile and adversarial place than it already is. They react defensively and we spend time in damage control rather than in finding and evaluating facts.

I hope that explains why we said what we did in the Guide to Votes for Deletion. Take care. Rossami (talk) 21:42, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Moving Sauber[edit]

Can you please explain why Sauber was moved to Sauber Petronas? The article is about Sauber the team, whilst Petronas is merely part of their name as an entry in the championship because you must include the engine supplier's name due to sporting regulations. They have had different engines in the past, and if strong rumours are confirmed, they will have BMW engines as early as next season. This would just cause problems because the page would need to be moved again, and links to Sauber Petronas redirected. Thanks AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 11:50, 8 May 2005 (UTC)

track listing[edit]

I reverted the changes you made to the Gorillaz track listings. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums#Track_listing for guidelines. --Fritz S. June 28, 2005 14:55 (UTC)

Mike Oldfield - Hergest Ridge cover[edit]

I'm just wondering why you removed the cover of Hergest Ridge from the Mike Oldfield page. I'm afraid I'm totally at a loss as to how you find it depressing. Sorry if I'm missing something about the image but your reason for removing it has puzzled me.
