I am an academic who specializes in philosophy with a wider knowledge of the arts and humanities. I recently joined Wikipedia, even though I used to make occasional anonymous edits to philosophy and humanities articles. I contributed to Wikipedia edits in other European languages too. University lecturers usually caution their students not to use Wikipedia in serious research, but I am trying to see whether contributing to selected philosophy and humanities articles when my time permits can be useful in promoting knowledge beyond academia. Given that I am new, I am familiarizing myself with the Wikipedia protocols and technical operations. So far being here showed me that Wikipedia may in the future have the potential of becoming possibly self-corrective, but I have to see if I remain active here or not after I familiarize myself more with the policies and operational guidelines of Wikipedia. I take this opportunity to thank various Wikipedia experienced editors and administrators whose advice has been helpful in this introductory phase. (AcademeEditorial (talk) 22:38, 12 July 2017 (UTC))
