The Station[edit]

2AC Australian Chinese Radio was founded in 1995 by a group of people who were enthusiastic about working in the media industry. On 15th July that year, 2AC began broadcasting. For more than ten years, the staff of 2AC has worked to provide our Mandarin and Cantonese audiences with updated and accurate news and information, as well as high-quality entertaining programs.

In the early 1990s, when electronic media of Sydney’s Chinese community was still in its initial stage, a group of professionals from various industries proposed to the government for a one-hour regular Cantonese broadcast on its provided channels. They worked together to report the most updated news and information for the Chinese community.

Among these professionals, some of them acted out their dream of operating their own radio station. After countless night-long meetings and more than six months’ preparation, they founded 2AC Australian Chinese Radio with Mandarin and Cantonese programs which accompanies its audience 24 hours day-and-night.

In January 2000, 2AC Australian Chinese Radio broadcasted for the first time, for one month through channel FM 94.5. During the process of preparing the FM broadcast, 2AC Australian Chinese Radio received overwhelming support from various industries, governmental officials, and audience.

Location[edit]

2AC Australian Chinese Radio was first situated next door of Sydney’s Chinese library on George Street, close to the Chinese community when it was founded. As 2AC further developed and matured with its constant variety of programs, its office space had become insufficient. As a result 2AC moved to 22-26 Goulburn Street which was more spacious and provided better services. On 20th August 2008, with the development and demand of time, and to improve the quality of its programs, they moved their office to where it is currently today, World Square, Level 2, Suite 29, 650 George Street, situated at Sydney’s CBD area.

The Programs[edit]

The Radio has also worked with many travel agencies cooperatively to run holiday tours which included sightseeing around Australia and various countries overseas.

2AC Radio often works jointly with overseas radios. For example, during the Chinese New Year, 2AC cooperated with China’s Beijing Radio, holding a radio hookup to celebrate the New Year. The program enabled the local audience to experience the lively atmosphere in China. The Cantonese Channel also held hookup program with its Hong Kong colleagues such as RTHK Hong Kong Radio. In the program, Hong Kong’s celebrity broadcasters did a running commentary of what was happening in Hong Kong’s New Year celebration.

During the Beijing Olympic Games, Radio Beijing Corporation sent out a special correspondent to provide the most updated and comprehensive information about the Olympics for Sydney’s ethnic Chinese people.

2AC has also established a good network and relationship with some highly well-known celebrities from overseas.
