Unomattina in famiglia is an Italian television programme, a spin-off of Unomattina, broadcast on Rai 2 from 1989 to 2010 and on Rai 1 since 2010. Since 2023 it has been hosted by Beppe Convertini, Ingrid Muccitelli and Monica Setta.

The programme has taken on numerous titles over the years: in 1989 it began with the title Mattina 2, and from 1993 to 2010 it took the name Mattina in Famiglia (with the exception of the 2003–2004 season, which resumed the old title In Famiglia - Mattina 2), while since 2010, with the move from Rai 2 to Rai 1, it has become Unomattina in Famiglia.

The programme is broadcast from the historic Studio 1 in Via Teulada in Rome, shared with I fatti vostri. It currently airs on Saturdays from 8.30 am to 10.30 am and on Sundays from 6.30 am to 9.30 am.

History of the programme[edit]

The programme, created by Michele Guardì and broadcast on Saturday and Sunday mornings, began on 9 December 1989 initially with the title Mattina 2, the ideal continuation of the Unomattina container broadcast from Monday to Friday on Rai 1. Mattina 2 , hosted by Alberto Castagna from 1989 to 1992 first with Sofia Spada and then with Isabel Russinova from 1990 to 1992, later replaced by Alessandro Cecchi Paone and Paola Perego, presents itself as a container full of columns for the whole family. In these first editions, however, the program received a low level of approval from the public.

On September 25, 1993, the program changed its title to Mattina in famiglia. The morning broadcast hosted by the reconfirmed Alessandro Cecchi Paone and Paola Perego, including some short editions of TG2, remains unchanged, continuing to offer numerous features dedicated to nature, cooking, sport, television, fashion, the Italian language, science and religion and to the psychological consultancy curated by Ottavio Rosati. With the arrival of Massimo Giletti in 1994, supported by Paola Perego in the two television seasons 1994/95 and 1995/96. the program becomes a real family game show, with games, interviews with famous people and spaces dedicated to weather forecasts. Some telephone games are also introduced for the audience at home, such as Il gioco del topo (translates to The mouse game), present for numerous seasons from 1994/95 to 2002/03. In these two television seasons 1994/95 and 1995/96 the program finally managed to obtain considerable consensus from the public.

After Giletti's abandonment in 1996, the baton was taken over by Tiberio Timperi, host of the program from 1996 to today (with the exception of the 2004/2005 and 2018/2019 seasons), and some variations arrived in the lineup; however, the program does not achieve the desired success, especially compared to the great following obtained by the two previous editions, and this causes the program to return to the previous formula. Over the years from 1996 onwards, Timperi has been supported by various presenters: Barbara D'Urso, Simonetta Martone, Roberta Capua, Livia Azzariti, Adriana Volpe, Miriam Leone, Francesca Fialdini, Ingrid Muccitelli, Monica Setta and co-host Marcello Cyril. In the autumn of 2010, the Board of Directors of RAI decided to promote a single program on Rai 1 over the weekend and to save on the costs of only one program of the company, decided to maintain only one program, opting to promote the formula of the Rai 2 and moving it to Rai 1, still with the same title of Mattina in famiglia (replacing Unomattina week-end), renaming it the following season 2011/12 with the name of Unomattina in famiglia.

During the live broadcast on Saturday, 26 November 2011, with the firefighters of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, due to the flood in Messina, they make a gaffe announcing the recovery of a missing person (when in reality he dies) and the presenter Miriam Leone asks the firefighters " How are you?" (question referring to the missing person) as you believe that the missing person may still be alive.[1]

In autumn 2018 Timperi was replaced by Luca Rosini, supported by Ingrid Muccitelli. After two editions, from the 33rd edition, Muccitelli returned.

Theme song[edit]

Since 7 January 2012, the theme song for Unomattina in famiglia is Another Sunrise by Planet Funk. However, from subsequent editions, the theme song of the programme returned to being the historical one, first in a rearranged version and then in the original version. In the 2021 - 2022 and 2022 - 2023 editions, the theme song before and after the commercial breaks and the TG1 editions was a jingle based on the song Ma stasera by Marco Mengoni. From the 2023 - 2024 season the opening theme and before and after the commercial breaks is an instrumental version of Forever Young by Alphaville.
