Size[edit]

This template is goddamn huge!! 68.166.50.142 17:57, 8 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Minor characters[edit]

I'm not at all convinced that most of the minor characters listed here are notable.

  • Oosaka Naru: Notable. Important to the plot of the first season. Links to Nephrite (or simply the 'Shitennou' page) and Umino.
  • Umino Gurio: Borderline notable. Links to Naru, Mamoru Chiba (the latter only in discussing parodies of Tuxedo Kamen).
  • Tsukino-tachi: Not plotwise interesting -- Tsukino Shingo already exists, but it probably shouldn't. A brief mention on Usagi's page should be sufficient.
  • Sakurada Haruna: Not plotwise interesting.
  • Furuhata Motoki: Not plotwise interesting, except briefly.
  • Furuhata Unazuki: Who? Not notable.
  • Kumada Yūichirō: Only briefly plotwise interesting, and anime-only to boot: a sentence or two more about him on Hino Rei's page should suffice.

I think they could probably stand to go, and some of the other characters' pages -- especially reduplicated same-season villians, such as the Shitennou or the Amazones Quartetto -- probably need to be unified into one page. This is an encyclopedia, not a fan site, after all; "completeness" isn't what we're after. --Aponar Kestrel (talk) 22:37, 2004 Sep 2 (UTC)

It's mean to call them "Minor Characters", in my opinion, some of them were important to the overall arc of some of the episodes. I can argue my points on this. When people say that you read like an Encyclopedia they mean that you know everything. I should say this is not a dictionary either. It's fair to try to insert all characters involved in my opinion, so if you don't know who someone is, to look them up.

I renamed the category to Support Cast. I also renamed the page Chibiusa, It's Chibiusa, not Chibi-Usa or Chibi Usa, I have support for it in Book 11, 3rd page of the original, and then in the anime books too. Hitoshi Doi was wrong in this case. I also added a few characters to the list and separated the anime from the manga, and the musicals from the rest of the pack. It's rather disconcerting to not have that information separated, since it is a different animal with different plotlines. If one is to do an Encyclopedia, do it right!

Unazuki-chan was intrecal to 2 plotlines in Sailormoon, in SMR with her riding on the motorcycle, and her Heart Crystal being taken. She also is there to chat with the senshi about love, wanting a boyfriend, and showe up in the Exam battle with Makoto. She is important enough because she was in both the manga and anime.

Motoki takes a larger role in the Live Action Series, and is important to the first arc of SMR, influencing the choices that Makoto makes in both versions of the series.

Umino Gurio, is notable for Tuxedo Tempura, the episode with the contest to win a prize, and several SM opriginal series episodes.

Anyway, I fixed that stuff. --;; Not that anyone cares.

Images[edit]

According to the ninth point in the Fair use policy:

Fair use images should only be used in the article namespace. Used outside article space, they are often enough not covered under the fair use doctrine. They should never be used on templates (including stub templates and navigation boxes) or on user pages.

For the same reason it was not allowed to keep a Fair use image in Template:User smfan, it shouldn't be kept here. It happened to me once, and I learned about my mistake. -- ReyBrujo 21:43, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Current template[edit]

  • I think this box might be a bit too big. Isn't there a way to cut down on all the empty space? Danny Lilithborne 23:00, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Now that it's been shrunk, the Black Moon Clan looks odd; how about something like this?:

-- RattleMan 00:52, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It looks nice:) Danny Lilithborne 01:02, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That does look nice! I'd been worrying about the white space, too. :) I also went in a rearranged some things, stretched it slightly and got a few newlines to go away. And I expanded the linespace a bit, so it's not so crammed; easier to read now, I think. Oh, I also put Chaos in his own space, separate from Shadow Galactica, since he's associated with all five villain groups. He was being newlined anyway, though, so the only visual difference is that now there isn't a pipe (|) after the Animamates link. ^^ Thanks! --Masamage 03:03, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Protagonist divisions[edit]

There we go; we have the Sailor Senshi and allies properly lined up, with the Core on the first line, followed by the Inner Senshi on line two and the Outers on line three. -- Denelson83 09:47, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Blank space[edit]

Does anyone have any idea why there's a space under the Dark Kingdom line? It's driving me crazy. --Masamage 19:28, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What? The layout is correct , with the given line breaks found in the text. -- ReyBrujo 19:36, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm getting a space between Dark Kingdom and Makaiju--slightly bigger than the space between Antagonists and Dark Kingdom. T_T It's happening in both Firefox and IE. --Masamage 19:46, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. The Dark Kingdom was on the line with the "align center" bit, causing the problem. ^_^ -- RattleMan 20:47, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nice! :D Thank you!
So, I'm worried this template might be too fluid to consistantly look good. If you move your browser edge in and out, things fall off their lines, and whitespace appears. There's only a very small range in which it looks good. How can we solve that problem? --Masamage 23:02, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And you did it again, Masamage!!! :p -- Denelson83 23:12, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
...LOL. I try. I swear I try. But you have to admit, what a hilarious word to be spelling wrong every time I type it. --Masamage 23:16, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ironic, isn't it, that your error in spelling that word is very....... well, consistent. -- Denelson83 23:19, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My subconscious is a funny girl. --Masamage 23:28, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: the resolution of the screen, it looks fine at 1024x768. It's only if you get 800x600 or 640x480 that things start looking weird. Are they any statistics/surveys on what resolutions people use these days? -- RattleMan 23:32, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Naoko[edit]

What was wrong with having Takeuchi Naoko's name up in the title bar? --Masamage 01:32, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do you see the creators of other entertainment franchises in their navigational templates, like Star Trek? -- Denelson83 03:17, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No. :P But my issue wasn't that she needs to be emphasized; my issue was that her name looks incongrous in line with everything else. If you prefer to remove it entirely I wouldn't mind, but if it stays I think it looks weird there and might look better in a different position.. --Masamage 03:53, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New change[edit]

While i Like the fact that the movies have been seperated from the rest of the stuff, it smashs the Bad guys together. We had arranged them that way to sperate them. If it were possible to keep the movies sperate and still have the olde badie arrangement then its a good idea. Else i say revert it. Lego3400: The Sage of Time 17:41, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The idea is less for this to stay exactly like it is and more for it to be easily-editable. As we get more work done, many more links are going to be added to that template (like to the five arc pages, including Sailor Stars, and also to things like Talisman (Sailor Moon), Parallel Sailor Moon, etc.) As things are added, all of the sections will get fuller and more spaced out, and the Villain section will have room to expand back to its normal size. --Masamage 19:06, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Headers[edit]

Do people like the edit that was just made, with "Characters" and "Continuity" headers? I don't prefer it, but thought I ought to run it by the rest of you before doing anything. --Masamage 05:03, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Anyway we can get rid of all that Blank Space?--Lego3400: The Sage of Time 16:32, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's inherent in having the headers, because of course it'll be plain white to each side. That's part of why I dislike it. --Masamage 22:26, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, since no one seems to disagree, I'll go ahead and revert. --Masamage 19:48, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Design[edit]

I think this idea was better. As well as design, it was collapsible when the related article becomes larger.--JSH-alive talk to mesee my worksmail to me 13:04, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I like the hide thing and would go for that, but otherwise the design changes just make it bigger and more crowded. --Masamage 17:39, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It looked smaller and not all that crowded on my machine when it was done like that... I liked it better.-Malkinann 22:27, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Several of the lines overflow for me: the one at the top as well as the arc and movie ones are each two lines long and messy-looking. --Masamage 23:12, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, stupid.[edit]

Sorry. Made a mistake. I was on the SMS page, and I saw that the link wasn't working. But it was on the template, and I was trying to change it so it would. I realize now that it doesn't work when you're on the page, only when you're viewing the template somewhere else. My bad. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sbloemeke (talkcontribs) 23:27, 1 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Ah, that makes sense. ^^ No problem. --Masamage 00:05, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do Not Revert[edit]

It is creating extra space.70.74.35.252 07:43, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that is why I am reverting. Spacing = good. --Masamage 21:48, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, it is not good.100110100 21:53, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Now you're edit-warring. Let's discuss, shall we? --Masamage 21:56, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes we should, & am.100110100 07:22, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion Of The Clear[edit]

I'm deleteing the clear because most, if not, all other templates do not have it. No reader on the face of the earth needs an extra visual cue to separate the template from the article. It is arbitrary and opinionated to have it. What constitutes enough space from the text of the article and the template? You say one line, I say 1000.68.148.164.134 02:00, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why do all the people who remove the clear tag have to be so confrontational and hostile? --Masamage 03:14, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Now then. I have reverted per the bold, revert, discuss process. I personally think it looks hideous without the clear tag; it mashes up the "this article contains Japanese text" template and makes them overlap. I'm guessing nobody really thinks 1000 lines are needed. --Masamage 03:32, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, don't yell at me. I'm just going to see if your right, i.e., delete it, and see what you mean by the mash up. BTW, I'm 100110100.68.148.164.134 06:03, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Show/hide[edit]

Can someone very talented add show/hide functionality to this template? That should help streamline things. I know how to do it with more simple boxes, but this one's got some funky code, so I don't want to break anything. --Masamage 16:55, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. I simply added the proper class names. -- Denelson83 22:27, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
For me, the show/hide thing covers up the view discussion edit template. :( -Malkinann (talk) 22:41, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Easily rectified. -- Denelson83 23:06, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Beautiful! Thank you. We'd received a few complaints over the years that it was too large, and I've been seeing collapsing nav templates all over the place lately. Should do the trick. :) --Masamage 00:07, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Does it have to start out as collapsed? It's a bit annoying when you want to quickly navigate from page to page. -Malkinann (talk) 00:32, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't have to. I'll fix it. -- Denelson83 01:50, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Any way we can put in the pink line? It makes the box one line larger than it needs to be right now.Lego3400: The Sage of Time (talk) 18:29, 8 April 2008 (UTC) Hmmm. Must be IE. I went home and opened a page with Firefox and it was fine. I hate haveing to use IE at school >_< —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.95.217.34 (talkcontribs) 16:12, 9 April 2008[reply]

Is this looks better?[edit]

By JSH-alive (talk)(cntrbtns)(mail me) 07:31, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Too generic. The SM navbox should stand out. -- Denelson83 07:40, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Needs more pink. I'm also wondering what "plot-related articles" is supposed to mean. -Malkinann (talk) 08:51, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Colours are changed to pink. Also, "Plot-related articles" to "Continuity". Click [show].
More ideas? - JSH-alive (talk)(cntrbtns)(mail me) 11:06, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I find the one we have much easier to read. Is something wrong with it? --Masamage 04:21, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No. Thank you. I'm going to update the template. - JSH-alive (talk)(cntrbtns)(mail me) 04:30, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
By "the one we have", I mean the extant one with the centerings and the limited use of color. Why does it need to be changed? The one you're proposing is more difficult to read. --Masamage 05:06, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for misunderstanding you. Do you have any idea for the template?--JSH-alive (talk)(cntrbtns)(mail me) 06:44, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I like it the way it is now. What's wrong with it? Why does it need to be changed? --Masamage 07:48, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe some guideline wants it to be more standard. No idea, but I like the current one because it is easier to read rather then the other one.--Hanaichi 03:55, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Problems this template facing[edit]

As of this version, in the bottom, "Movies" places sightly higher than "Story arcs". Especialy in the Internet Explorer, Hife button places above the name bar. (This is a text description writen in 01:09, 5 June 2008 (UTC) as the Image:SailorMoon nav templ WP-EN problem.JPG is about to be deleted.)

What do you think? -- JSH-alive (talk)(cntrbtns)(mail me) 08:28, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And your proposed solution above does not have these issues? I find it hard to believe that the IE issue is resolved by your above proposed solution, and I do not believe the Firefox issue is particularly important. -Malkinann (talk) 22:37, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. Just in messing with the code we've got, I've managed to improve the Firefox bug a little. There must be something else going on causing those last two pixels to be weird, though. As for the IE, there's surely some kind of hack; IE is famous for being annoying about CSS, and people are creative about sneaking around it. --Masamage 03:44, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Update discussion[edit]

A proposal has come up to update this template for better functionality and easier, standardized maintenance. Please join in the conversation over here! --Masamage 19:00, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is this looks better? II[edit]

A sight modification using Template:Navbox subgroup.

-- JSH-alive (talk)(cntrbtns)(mail me) 05:50, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It squishes up the links a lot, doesn't it? -Malkinann (talk) 09:35, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I don't know about the two big columns on the left. --Masamage 10:51, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's a pretty nonstandard layout for animanga-related navboxes... And actually, having the episodes split out is too. I have an idea on how they can be put back in with the "Franchise" group, though... Thoughts? —Dinoguy1000 16:50, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK. But, what about movies?--JSH-alive (talk)(cntrbtns)(mail me) 06:01, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not liking the summarisation of R and S into just R and S - might make it difficult for people to navigate to them. -Malkinann (talk) 19:32, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see how it would, since other navboxes do something similar with nothing but numbers (see for example Template:Bleach). As for the films, ideally, they would be put in the Franchise group with everything else, but three film articles I think is a fringe threshold for having their own group. If everyone wants them merged in with the Franchise group, though, I can do it. —Dinoguy1000 19:24, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm concerned that having only one letter links would constitute an accessibility issue. -Malkinann (talk) 22:16, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
All right, that seems like it'd be a valid concern, but I don't see any good way to get around it for e.g. Template:Bleach, Template:InuYasha, etc. You may want to start a discussion on the main project and see what everyone else has to say about it. —Dinoguy1000 23:31, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
