Name and existence of class[edit]

I had previously noted at Talk:USS Essex (1874) that the USS Essex (1874) article describes said vessel as being "an Enterprise-class wooden-hulled armed naval steam sloop of war" rather than an Adams-class (although it notes that she and the USS Adams were "sister ships". To further the confusion the USS Nipsic says "in 1874 she was rebuilt as a new, and substantially larger, Adams/Enterprise-class gunboat". However I am also slightly concerned that the article for USS Alliance (1875) another vessel in this template does not at any point use the Adams class label nor does the USS Enterprise (1874) article and there is no Adams-class category. Thus I think we could do with clarification that this was an official class of vessels and what the correct naming practice for the class is in the relevant articles. If someone has sources at hand that could do this is would be useful to clear up the confusion. Dunarc (talk) 22:53, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
