This article can obviously use expansion, but it is just as important as many of the other cocktail and alcoholic beverage articles. Granted it results in a mere 37,000 search hits (not all of them about this drink), although the spelling is sometimes different—this is a result largely of the English bias. I do not know how to spell this in Cyrillic, but yorsh is very important in Russia and Russian-influenced areas. Probably the #1 "mixed drink."

(1) Making and drinking yorsh is considered to be a hallmark of an extremely bad taste (boorishness) in Russia (in fact the title of the Russian-language source was omitted here (page title was used), as the actual title of the linked piece says "Ерш — напиток который не следует готовить и пить" (Yorsh: a drink that should not be made or drunk) and (2) is not generally found beyond the circle of alcoholics looking for a cheap kick: (relatively cheap) beer apparently improves the alcohol absorption due to its CO2 bubbles (like sparkling water), so the effect of even a small amount of (much more expensive in Soviet times) vodka is supposed to be bigger. (never tried it myself, naturally, see #1). In other words, one can expect to see consumption of this cocktail in the movies (cf. beginning of the The Irony of Fate), not in the real life. "downing a full glass of it at one go"[edit]

The drink in its classical version is about 10 oz of liquid, pretty hard to gulp (not impossible, of course). The pseudonymous authority on the subject suggests just finishing the drink quickly. I have provided a more detailed and sourced text at the bottom and plan to eventually remove the unsourced text, unless cites are provided. The WP:RS I used is not quite reputable, but this matches the subject.
