"Significant copyright violations"[edit]

I disagree with the assessment that the plot premise I added constitutes "significant copyright violations". When the film was announced at Cannes, there was only one plotline available. Could I have not as closely translated it? Perhaps. But I believe I took more than enough liberties to deviate from pure copy-and-paste. I reject the claim that this brief 3-sentence blurb which is not a verbatim translation is a significant copyright violation that warrants revision deletions. I would like an admin to review this case before rubber stamping this user's perfunctory request.

Compare the original and translation:

Liane, 19 ans, téméraire et incandescente, vit avec sa mère et sa petite sœur sous le soleil poussiéreux de Fréjus. Obsédée par la beauté et le besoin de devenir quelqu’un, elle voit en la télé-réalité la possibilité d’être aimée. Le destin semble enfin lui sourire lorsqu’elle passe un casting pour « Miracle Island ».

Liane, 19 years old, daring and fiery, lives with her mother and little sister under the dusty sun of Fréjus in the South of France. Obsessed with beauty and the need to become “someone”, she sees reality TV as her opportunity to be loved... Fate smiles upon her when she auditions for “Miracle Island”.

with my revision:

Liane lives with her mother and little sister in Fréjus, on the Côte d'Azur. She is obsessed with her physical appearance and dreams of becoming famous. Eventually she discovers reality TV as a possible springboard for a career. Liane gleefully responds to a casting call for Miracle Island.

I think this rebuttal is sufficient to deny the request. It is important to remember that close paraphrasing is not a defense, but a copyvio caused by superficial changes to copied content. That being said, the translation appears to be reasonably rewritten rather than superficially close-paraphrased. At the worst, further discussion would be needed. However the excerpt here does at face value appear to be a reasonable independent rewriting of the source material rather than a vapid copy or close paraphrase. ~Swarm~ {sting} 04:45, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
