Unnecessary demographics[edit]

I realize that the intro derives from A24's official synopsis, and that A24 describes the movie as being about "the epic emotional journey of a suburban African-American family". However, given the trailer and the plot synopsis, there's no evidence that this movie is about blackness, simply that it has a predominantly black cast. As such, the descriptor "African-American" is here the same as my father including racial/ethnic descriptors only for non-white people in his stories, and not describing whites as anything but people. It's unnecessary, and while I can understand how A24 may want to promote the movie as having such a non-white cast, it's borderline bigoted as far as I can tell. CBS Films does not describe Hell or High Water as being a story of "two Caucasian brothers", just "two brothers".

It's of course possible that the movie has racially-motivated plot points, but they're not in evidence yet, so I've removed "African-American" from the intro. Chuckstory (talk) 16:11, 11 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Chuckstory: The father does state that African-Americans need to try harder to get success which is why he pushes his son, and there is a segment where an abortion protester uses an awful word towards one of the characters, but other than that I don't see racially motivated sections.
