Fair use rationale for Image:MYWilmington.gif[edit]

Image:MYWilmington.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Current status[edit]

Where is the third party proof that this station is off the air? Until proof is given, this reeks of WP:OR. Stereorock (talk) 00:54, 26 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Stereorock: For once, it's not on cable anymore, and I can't seem to find its listings on Zap2it in either Shallotte or Wilmington. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 01:27, 26 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Mvcg66b3r: Firstly, only in rare circumstances does a cable system have to carry a low-power television station, so W47CK being pulled from the local cable system may be explained that way (W47CK’s situation doesn’t rise to that threshold). Secondly, as for Zap2It, it’s possible the station doesn’t report to them so they are not listed. Without the FCC listing the station as “Licensed and silent”, or “license canceled”, or say a news story about the station going off-air, we don’t have any proof that it is in fact defunct. Even if it is off-air, this could be temporary, so using the past tense is wrong as the station could come back until its license is canceled. As of now, the station is listed as licensed by the FCC in its CDBS, so lacking any hard 3rd party proof to the contrary, it must be treated as station still on-air. If it were reported by a viewer on a message board, I would say that could rise to the level of saying the station has been reported as off-air, which would be a true statement in that case. But, until that proof is shown, there’s no hard evidence that it is no longer on-air. Stereorock (talk) 03:24, 26 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Stereorock: Why did you have to make W47CK on the air if it said it is a dead (defunct) station?! CentralTime301 (talk, contribs) 11:35, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@CentralTime301: Because there is no Wikipedia-acceptable proof that the station is off the air, just WP:OR that the station is no longer being listed. The F.C.C. still shows the station as licensed, not licensed and silent, nor license cancelled. This means until a verifiable article or FCC proof appears, we must assume it is still broadcasting. Stereorock (talk) 11:59, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It is not listed in RabbitEars.info, Stereorock. CentralTime301 (talk, contribs) 12:15, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Rabbitears.info isn't the F.C.C.. As you'll read above, it's not listed in a couple of places either, but that doesn't mean conclusively that it's off the air. Stereorock (talk) 13:55, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
