X: A 45-second teaser trailer of the film – involving an action sequence set in prison – was released on the eve of Haasan's 67th birthday (7 November 2021).[1][2] In April 2022, the teaser was attached to the prints of K.G.F: Chapter 2 and Beast in theatres.[3]

As a part of the film's promotions, in collaboration with Southern Railways, the marketing team designed the film's posters at the locomotive trains travelling across India.[4][5] Raajkamal Films International collaborated with Vistas Media Capital's Fantico and Lotus Metaentertainment, for the film's launch in the metaverse platform, Vistaverse.[6][7][8] Vistaverse further announced the launch of utilities through non-fungible tokens (NFT), which will be launched at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival on 18 May 2022.[9][10] The film's audio and theatrical trailer were both launched simultaneously at the audio launch event held in Chennai on 15 May 2022 and all the cast and crew attending the event[10] and actor Simbu,[11] director Pa. Ranjith[12], and veteran actress Radhika attended the pre release event as chief guest. [citation needed] The audio launch was premiered on Star Vijay on 22 May.[13] A press meet was also held in Tamil Nadu on 25 May 2022 to promote the film.[14]

The trailer of the film has crossed over 1.2 crore views within 24 hours on YouTube.[15] Reviewing the trailer of the film, The Hindu stated that "Director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s film comes on the back of two hits — Kaithi and Master — and expectations are massive for the project, that is produced by Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI) and Red Giant Movies. Interestingly, Vikram was also the title of a 1986 action adventure-film directed by Rajasekhar, starring Kamal Haasan and Sathyaraj, among others."[16] Hindustan Times after reviewing the trailer, wrote "While the trailer hardly gives away the plot, what it does offer is the glimpse of the film’s grand scale of action. It is packed with guns, explosions and gangsters."[17]

Y: A 45-second teaser trailer of the film – involving an action sequence set in prison – was released on the eve of Haasan's 67th birthday (7 November 2021).[18][19] In April 2022, the teaser was attached to the prints of K.G.F: Chapter 2 and Beast in theatres.[20] As a part of the film's promotions, in collaboration with Southern Railways, the marketing team designed the film's posters at the locomotive trains travelling across India.[21][22] The film's trailer was released at the audio launch event on 15 May 2022, and within 24 hours, the trailer crossed over 1.2 crore views.[23]

Haasan promoted the film at the The Kapil Sharma Show,[24] Super Singer 8,[25] and at the fourth season of Bigg Boss Malayalam.[26] He further made his YouTube debut, by featuring in Village Cooking Channel, which appeared in a role in one of the film's scenes.[27][28] Raajkamal Films International collaborated with Vistas Media Capital's Fantico and Lotus Metaentertainment, for the film's launch in the metaverse platform, Vistaverse.[29][30][31] Vistaverse further announced the launch of utilities through non-fungible tokens (NFT), being unveiled at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival on 18 May 2022.[32][33]

Haasan attended the film's promotions in New Delhi at the PVR Priya-Vasant Vihar theatre. In collaboration with PVR Cinemas and Raajkamal Films, all theatres in Delhi owned by PVR were rebranded as "PVR Vikram Hitlist".[34] The film's Kerala distributor, Shibu Thameens, hosted a pre-release event at Lulu International Shopping Mall, Kochi on 27 May 2022.[35] An event was held in Mumbai on 28 May, to promote the film's Hindi version.[36] On 29 May, Haasan promoted the film at Malaysia, with the presence of Malayalam politician Anwar Ibrahim attending the event as chief guest.[37][38] Another pre-release event was held in Hyderabad on 31 May, with Venkatesh Daggubati and Nithiin felicitating the event.[39][40] On 1 June, Haasan, Lokesh Kanagaraj and Anirudh attended the promotions of the film in Dubai,[41] with the theatrical trailer being showcased at Burj Khalifa.[42]

The packaged water company, Bisleri had unveiled a limited edition water bottles featuring the cast of Vikram, for the promotions.[43] The official Twitter emoji was released on 23 May 2022.[44] On 27 May 2022, a special promo teasing the conference-call sequence from Haasan's Panchathanthiram (2002) was released,[45] and featured the other lead actors from the original film, Jayaram, Yugi Sethu, Ramesh Aravind and Sriman.[46] The unique promo was lauded by cinephiles for the nostalgic idea and hailed it as "a creative attempt".[47]

Dubbing[edit]

@Ab207, Kailash29792, SP013, Bovineboy2008, and Theoder2055: Was the film really dubbed in Malayalam and Kannada? Couldn't find theatres of the same. Kochi shows as Tamil as does Bengaluru. DareshMohan (talk) 04:19, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Don't think they got a theatrical release but I might be wrong. Someone from Kerala or Karnataka would have a better idea. -- Ab207 (talk) 09:55, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Never got released it seems since they had no trailer either but those languages are still up in the air for the OTT release. SP013 (talk) 13:58, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

But then most of the sources like here are mentioned that they are dubbed and released in five languages namely Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu languages. I don’t know why. The satellite rights are also sold in those languages. In sources like this also it is mentioned and in the film as you watch from the starting is also shown. Yeah, these dubs could be post-theatrical releases. Some sources are blindly listing out all the languages without fact checking or knowing the difference. -- Ab207 (talk) 19:46, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dubbing of Vikram (2022 film)[edit]

@Ab207, Kailash29792, SP013, Bovineboy2008, and DareshMohan:, I had a doubt before regarding Vikram (2022 film), there were promotional events being held in Kerala to promote the film. Aren’t they promoting it for the Malayalam dubbed version? Malayalam trailer has not yet actually released. So hasn’t the film released in Malayalam too in theatres? If not then what is the use for the promotional events held in Kerala. Also I also came to notice that another user had also asked the same question. Theoder2055 (talk) 17:31, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. But was it dubbed in Kannada? DareshMohan (talk) 18:33, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So the Malayalam and Kannada versions (to answer DareshMohan's question) were released as an "OTT" dub for this film and not theatrically like Telugu and Hindi. However after checking the promotional footage for the event in Kerala just now, it seems like they did end up promoting the Malayalam dubbed version for a theatrical release but as we all know the film did not release in Malayalam theatrically. But since the Kochi promotional event still occurred, it should be reported but we should state that it was for the Malayalam version but the release for that version was ultimately dropped for "unknown reasons". SP013 (talk) 21:44, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No, the Malayalam version was not dropped. It was already released in OTT. Later the trailer of the Malayalam version was also released. 2001:8F8:1825:AE54:58BA:ED82:ECF0:5677 (talk) 06:02, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Box office figures.[edit]

The estimated collection of vikram on it's final day run is between 440 - 460 crores and it's supported by multiple sources as the official box office figure.

I kindly request the extended confirmated users to modify the figure or to submit a more reliable source supporting the claim. Kichawww (talk) 21:08, 18 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Kichawww Definitely something is off with that 500 crore estimate. There's no territory-wise break up, and claims to have added 60 crore after it's streaming release which is an unlikely scenario.
@Panda619 Kindly look into it once again. Readers wouldn't take these figures seriously if they seem exaggerated which defeats the whole purpose. Thanks and regards -- Ab207 (talk) 13:26, 20 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well yeah, but that's the only source with latest update on box office with its 75 days run and Indian BO figures in general are a joke, I just updated because the site was reputed and is latest update regarding BO and theatrical run, every other source and figures are just many weeks old and circular reported. Panda619 (talk) 13:54, 20 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Although, we need latest figures regarding box office, it doesn't necessarily be always used. I doubt Asianet article's reliability, it's clearly inflated. It's better to use the older figures, which have a basic area-wise breakup. I am here not questioning the reliability of Asianet, but the figures mentioned in the article. Also, what Ab207 said is true, even after its premiere on Hotstar, how can it collect 60 crores more? For example, let us take the case of RRR, it has wide re-release in the US and other western nations, but there is no huge change in the box office figures. Finally, I once again suggest using previous box office figures until we have many more sources confirming the same. Thank you....Jayanthkumar123 (talk) 16:21, 20 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If Asianet is not reliable, no other mainstream media is reliable, I mean, as said the way the every Indian box office numbers are reported are a big joke, that said, Wikipedia has many articles box office figures with Asianet as reference and I just don't see point of using 45 days old figure on basis of assumptions. Panda619 (talk) 22:26, 20 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Panda619 please read my comment again, I clearly said that the Asianet is reliable, but I am questioning the reliability of that particular article. Also, go through this point---" even after its premiere on Hotstar, how can it collect 60 crores more? For example, let us take the case of RRR, it has wide re-release in the US and other western nations, but there is no huge change in the box office figures". It's a matter of common sense. I understood your intention to use the latest data, but here, in this case, the data/sources are not reliable. Please understand my context and the example of RRR. Go through this article published by Ormax Media--[1] (FYI I know that Ormax media is not under the reliable sources list according to wikipedia). It states that the film's domestic gross is 285 crore. Now, let us assume that these figures are low, but even then 500 crore is way more inflated after including overseas collection too. What's wrong with using the older data if the latest data is not reliable. As said earlier, if more sources confirm the same figures, then we can use them further. Comments from @Kailash29792, Ab207, Deepika o, DareshMohan, MNWiki845, and SP013: would be helpful. Thank you....Jayanthkumar123 (talk) 7:54, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, we don't have to blindly regurgitate media reports if we have a legitimate reason to believe they are inflated. For instance, few articles reported Maharshi grossed 295 crore in one week. These include otherwise RS like India Today, Times of India and Zee Biz.
They were discussed at the talk page and arrived at a consensus not to use them. So no article can get a free pass without the scrutiny of reliability, especially in contested areas like box office. -- Ab207 (talk) 08:53, 21 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ab207, so shall we remove the 500 crore figure from the range?. Panda619 and Khiladi King, before making changes continuously discuss here. This is an ongoing discussion, so let the box office figures remain as earlier i.e., 400--500 crore. Jayanthkumar123 (talk) 07:00, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Current range seems okay. However, adding only 500 crore as it is some kind of gospel truth is questionable. -- Ab207 (talk) 09:05, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The film streamed on ott after 1 month and 5 dyas, Majority of the sources didn't publish any article regarding 50 and 75 days of vikram box office collection but only two sources published the 75 days collection. So only 500 can't be regarded as the exact collection, it can vary from 400 to 500. Especially News 18 and International business Times mentioned about 400-420 crore in it's conplete theatrical run. Khiladi King (talk) 16:32, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Vikram 3[edit]

@Kailash29792, Ab207, Deepika o, DareshMohan, MNWiki845, Jayanthkumar123, and Grabup: Is it confirmed that the film would also have a third sequel to Vikram? One source from Bollywood life here says that the film would have two sequels Vikram 2 and Vikram 3. Also Kamal Haasan said in an interview here that Suriya’s cameo in the movie as Rolex would take the story into part 3. But then is it sure that there will be Vikram 3? Box office minimum collection[edit]

Since the collection of 414 crore is given by sacnilk (https://www.sacnilk.com/news/Vikram_2021_Box_Office_Collection_Day_Wise_Worldwide) which is an unreliable source as per Wikipedia:ICTFSOURCES, and most other reliable sources like Bollywood Hungama (435 crore: https://www.bollywoodhungama.com/news/box-office-special-features/mani-ratnams-ponniyin-selvan-1-surpasses-vikram-tamil-nadu-emerge-highest-grossing-film-time/) give an amount of at least 430 crore, the DNA India source (414 crore) be replaced with Deccan Herald (424 crore): https://www.deccanherald.com/entertainment/10-highest-grossing-indian-movies-worldwide-in-2022-1173800.html Cinephile4ever 02:38, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Cinephile4ever: DNA India source does not say it is from Sacnik.[2] NaanReady (talk) 13:10, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is the same point I discussed in the talk page of Jailer film with another user named Rajan51, please see the topic "Gross figures": https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Jailer_(2023_Tamil_film)
Here, I gave a source (either Indian Express or India Today) citing a figure of Rs 222 crore gross collection for the first 4 days. In that article too, it was not said that this amount is from sacnilk. But that user kept on saying saying he saw the same amount Rs 222 crore as nett on the sacnilk site, and gave references. I refused to agree first but then I found many reliable sources like Hindustan Times, News18, etc. too use the box office amounts provided on sacnilk.
Another point is DNA India has also used the box office amounts from the site sacnilk for many films many times before. And this Rs 414 crore is not found on any other site except sacnilk. So we can safely say that DNA India has used this amount given by sacnilk without citing it. Cinephile4ever 13:54, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Cinephile4ever: Okay. But I think it is not right to "guess" as the site doesn't says about Sacnik. Just my opinion. Thanks. NaanReady (talk) 13:58, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I really think we should have just 1 or maximum 2 reliable sources for box office collection of Indian films, and those sources should not change the amounts again and again, plus they should give a detailed report of daily collection too. Until then, this problem will continue forever. Cinephile4ever 14:07, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Cinephile4ever: Yeah! True. NaanReady (talk) 14:16, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lead[edit]

Let's talk about the lead and infobox. First issue is the conversions in the infobox. There's been a long-standing consensus at WP:ICTF not to use the INRConvert template in the infobox, but to use it in the lead and body. This is from conversions cluttering up the infobox. Using manual conversions that aren't sourced is an extremely disingenuous way around that, and the conversion isn't sourced and won't stay current. See [3].

The lead also has problems with some hype-ridden phrasing that's not found anywhere in the article body over calmly putting the box office gross versus the production budget so readers can decide. Using one source to state in Wikipedia's voice, in a breathless, highly POV tone is not acceptable. See neutral phrasing vs POV phrasing. Given the reverts, I've added the NPOV to the article until this is resolved.

Additional views requested at WT:ICTF. Ravensfire (talk) 04:06, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You should stop using the INRConvert template and read the consensus why it should not be used. The To USD template for 2022 is the best because it doesn't change and gives the correct gross in US$ millions, unlike INRConvert which inflates to 2023 this year, and will inflate to 2024 next year and so on. Also, don't be hyper-paranoid, because no one used any manual conversion or untemplated. I used the correct template for conversion and I reproduced the exact words as per the source. Cinephile4ever 04:11, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, your so-called "neutral phrasing" is not appropriate here, because it is not just one box office gross you can pin against budget, there are different estimates of box office gross by different publications, read the Box Office section. Cinephile4ever 04:41, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Possible malicious url removed[edit]

I've commented out what appears to be a malicious url from this article here. I tried to access the content via the Internet Archive twice; both times it froze and crashed my browser (Firefox) and my desktop environment (Cinnamon), forcing a reboot. I suggest removal; the referenced text is supported by another citation, possible more could be found, so we don't need this one anyway. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 02:23, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
