Andrew's range[edit]

At the time of this play, Julie Andrews had a range of three or two-and-a-half octaves, not four. NightMaj (talk) 07:06, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Raquel Welch[edit]

According to a Playbill.com article, dated July 16, 1997, (author Robert Viagas): "The long-running Broadway musical Victor/Victoria will close after the Sunday, July 27 matinee.

The musical, about an impoverished female singer who pretends to be a man so she can get work as a female impersonator, will have played 738 performances at the Marquis Theatre.

Raquel Welch took over the least role of Victoria Grant from Julie Andrews June 10, but box office income fell below half of its potential at capacity. Nevertheless, Variety reported that Welch is being considered for a national tour of the show."

(I am unable to post a link to the article because I have a new laptop computer and have not mastered it yet!!). Flami72 (talk) 09:49, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Here is a reference to another article, actually a review by Peter Marks in the New York Times, dated June 27, 1997: "Oh, come on! Raquel Welch, pretending to be a man? She of the exaggerated feminine proportions, trying to get away with hiding them in smoking jackets and tuxedos? If Ms. Welch's cross-dressing star turn in Victor/Victoria makes a dramatic point, it is that onstage, man does not live by threads alone. Not for a single moment does Ms. Welch, who has replaced that stay-the-distance trouper, Julie Andrews, in the long-running Broadway musical at the Marquis Theater, make a remotely persuasive case for temporary manhood. With its new leading lady, the show could be retitled, Victoria/Victoria.". Flami72 (talk) 09:54, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
