Expatriate or emigrant?[edit]

Was she a Russian Empire expatriate in Germany, or an emigrant to Germany?John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:29, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

She was a STUDENT in Germany. That is usually not considered to be any of the defining permanent-emigrant categories. Please stop trying to reflect all international moves as categorizations. Only the long-term moves should be considered defining. —David Eppstein (talk) 20:32, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
She was in Germany at least 4 years as a student. This is also where she met her future husband. It seems a defining phase of her life.John Pack Lambert (talk) 20:51, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Lots of people live as students for a few years in some other country. It is not a thing that defines them as being an immigrant to that country. Consider, for example, that current US student visas are very far from the same thing as being green cards (permanent residency). —David Eppstein (talk) 20:53, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
