Velaikkaras in Sri Lanka[edit]

In the Sri Lankan chronicle Cūḷavaṁsa (55.05, 63.24) there are several reference to Velaikkara soldiers in the 10-12 centuries. They were paid soldiers of the Sinhalese kings and not mercenaries.
