B-class review failed[edit]

This article does not meet B-class criteria, due to missing key sections (ex. economy) and insufficient inline referencing (there are entire sections unreferenced). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 16:27, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cleaning up and rewriting[edit]

Have started the task of cleaning up and rewriting this article, which will be achieved section by section. --Fliptank po (talk) 14:12, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted references (information now easily links to other verifiable Wiki pages) and "Location" section, since that information is easily served in the introductory section. --Fliptank po (talk) 07:45, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Temporarily removing the lines:

"Tychy is an important center of beer production (Tyskie beer) and automotive industry (Fiat factory, specializing in city cars; formerly known as FAP, Fiat Auto Poland)."; this information will be reintegrated in a new section entitled "Industry". --Fliptank po (talk) 07:40, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Change[edit]

Yesterday I made stylistic and formatting changes to this page, all of which were undone by user LUCPOL with no explanation other than a note in its history stating they were undone because references were removed. The references were removed purposefully because they add nothing to the article, since the information contained in them can be found by linking to other verifiable entries. I did not delete the References section because references will be added only where appropriate.

Wikipedia is about constantly improving upon the work of others. Format-wise, grammatically and stylistically this article is in need of some TLC. It's also rather scant on detail, all of which I will deal with in time. I expect others to add new information and edit my edits where appropriate, but undoing changes that are clearly improvements is not appropriate. I believe I've made my intentions quite clear (in line with Wikipedia's Editing Policy): I'm willing to discuss any edits and changes here, but undoing them entirely is nothing short of vandalism given the fact that I've explicitly said that this is a work in progress. --Fliptank po (talk) 07:38, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Following on from the information above I'm undoing the undo. --Fliptank po (talk) 07:39, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting[edit]

I'm suggesting that the section 'Notable People' is split off from the main article to make the content as encyclopedic as possible. If anyone objects, I'll leave this here for at least 72 hours. If, after that time, there are no objections the article will be split. Thanks. --Fliptank po (talk) 15:52, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have a few objections, but I'll defer to your judgement.
  1. Your argument is illogical - You find the section 'Notable People' to be non-encyclopedic, so you propose taking the material to create a non-encyclopedic article. If it's really non-encyclopedic it should just be deleted.
  2. Notable People sections are not non-encyclopedic - several featured articles have sections on Notable People. See Altrincham#Notable people, Cheadle Hulme#Notable people, Herne Bay, Kent#Notable people, Radcliffe, Greater Manchester#Notable people. I've only found separate lists such as List of Bostonians where the list is much longer than for Tychy.
  3. WP:AGF - to me your proposal, as you've phrased it, implies a lack of good faith on the part of the editors who added the material.
Regards, Bazj (talk) 22:30, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that... it's always best to thrash things out and I won't split if there's a superior third way of making the article better. I'll address each of your objections in turn and we can take it from there.
  1. Illogical argument - actually, as things stand, I think the article would benefit from having the section deleted. However, in deference to those who've created and added the section I felt it may be fairer to split the article, linking the new one under See also. Also the new article may simply be a list, which isn't non-encyclopedic but rather a useful way of indexing things.
  2. Notable people sections - here you make a very valid point. But take a look at the stylistic differences between this section as it appears on Tychy and the editorialised sections you point to. Perhaps this is the way to go and we should editorialise the Tychy section instead of splitting it. Also, it appears to me that while notable people sections may not be non-encyclopedic, a simple list of people who happen to have been born somewhere is.
  3. lack of good faith - this riles me a bit, although I think that was probably your intention. I've done everything I can to try to improve this article in good faith while trying to keep at least the essence of what everybody else has contributed, which is, again, why I tried to split the notable people section in the first place.

Going forward I suggest we try editorialising the notable people section, removing those from the list who don't meet Wiki's criteria for being noteworthy (or, indeed, have little or nothing to do with Tychy). Is this more acceptable to you? Thanks --Fliptank po (talk) 07:52, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, I apologise for the WP:AGF remark. I was trying to say that the editors who added the names under "Notable people" weren't trying to be vandals but may have been suffering an excess of civic pride, but I obviously didn't convey that point. Sorry.
I removed the non-notables a few days ago (the redlinks and the un-linked). I've just added the Tychy connection to the remaining names, and removed the names where their articles didn't support the assertion of a Tychy link.
I like the idea of editorialising. There seems to be a strong sporting theme in the remaining names. Regards, Bazj (talk) 09:54, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers for that; now it really feels like we're getting somewhere. Thanks also for clarifying what you meant... to be honest I'd never have considered editorialising the lists without your suggestions. I'll remove the split tag and gradually editorialise the section. Since, as you say, the remainder of the list is overwhelmingly to do with sports perhaps it would be better to amalgamate sporting types into the Sports section and leave August Kiss and Roman Polko as notable, adding to this list as others occur? --Fliptank po (talk) 11:54, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think that would be an excellent way forward. Cheers, Bazj (talk) 12:17, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So I've editorialised both Notable people and Sports sections; obviously feel free to edit if you see any mistakes or can add to what's there. Cheers, --Fliptank po (talk) 12:38, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Photos[edit]

Thanks to user Martin52t: I think the image you've provided is more representative of the place than the old one.

If anyone is able or willing, this article would benefit greatly from more images. I think a few things would be nice:

  • Old Tychy
  • "A" Housing Estate (nice for the New Tychy section)
  • Paprocany
  • Monument to Struggle & Labour (and the surrounding park generally)
  • Churches
  • Automotive Factories
  • New (preferably post EU-accession) buildings —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fliptank po (talkcontribs) 16:08, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers to anyone listening...

Education section[edit]

I move that we delete this section, moving its content here until it becomes more useful or can be integrated into the article elsewhere. Both objections and support very much welcomed --Fliptank po (talk) 12:42, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There was no listed objection to the temporary deletion of the Education section, so I've removed it. Information to possibly be re-amalgamated:

  • Nauczycielskie Kolegium Języków Obcych Teacher Training College of Foreign Languages TTC Tychy TTC Tychy website
  • Wyższa Szkoła Zarządzania i Nauk Społecznych Higher School of Management and Social Sciences WSZiNS Tychy
  • Filia Politechniki Śląskiej
  • I LO im. Leona Kruczkowskiego
  • II LO im. Cypriana Kamila Norwida
  • III LO im. Stanisława Wyspiańskiego
  • IV LO im. Gustawa Morcinka (Zespół Szkół nr 1)
  • V LO (Zespół Szkół Ekonomicznych)
  • Zespół Szkół nr 4
  • Zespół Szkół nr 5 ( previously Zespół Szkół Budowlano-Mechanicznych )

Cheers, --Fliptank po (talk) 17:34, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

B-class review failed[edit]

Etymology[edit]

The name "Tychy" cannot be derived from anything for sure, as it is a generic name given by Polish nationalists. After Panslavisic movement emerged, Polish nationalists came up with their version, as cited in the article. New "socialist science" controlled by the Polish Communist Party chose this explanation later on to do some nation building. --88.66.64.93 (talk) 10:45, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
