Ride[edit]

"Ride" section sounds like it was written by 12 year old. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.35.148.201 (talk) 04:25, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, have cleaned it up to make it sound less breathless - and removed the constant references to what happens to 'you' at the ride. Will leave the clean-up tag there, pending other views. Njjh201 21:39, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

???[edit]

Does anyone know if the outbreak of twisters in the movie was based on the Super Outbreak of 1974? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.39.130.85 (talk) 00:38, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, it's not ---Ntay 02:12, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There was some discussion that the "idea" of the movie came from the Super Outbreak of twisters. But this alone was not the only idea/deciding factor on the idea of the film. MattyC3350 (talk) 06:09, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jo's Aunt[edit]

I am changing the section that had said that her aunt was almost hurt, because she was most definately injured. I am changing it to injured and almost killed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 155.33.116.183 (talk) 23:30, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cell phone[edit]

Bill Paxton's fiancée is on a cell phone during the storm. Would she have had service then? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arthurian Legend (talkcontribs) 17:15, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, because cell phones are also limited by the closeness of a provider station. Since it seems to have been destroyed, then she was S O L.

This may get deleted since i'm not a wiki guy. If not, remove this message. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.230.217.202 (talk) 23:27, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

goofs and odd things[edit]

there are alot of goof's that u can see sometimes in the movie. i think a section or something should be added just because most movie pages have them also. here are a small list, like 1 that i can think off.

  • during the scene with the waterspots, after the first cow goes flying by, it shows them, if u look out the back window, u can see a second road leading the other way, with a car driving by.

but after that, it shows the bridge as a single road going 1 way.

  • i think theres another one of these when there drving towards 1, anothner car is shown driving away from the twister
  • after jonas's truck is picked up, and its showing his team watching, the last guy seems to be smiling and frowning at the same time.

srry for the speeling errors--Cody6 22:18, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Scott Thomson[edit]

The link that was in the article to Scott Thomson was a link to a Scottish football (soccer) goalie. I'm assuming that he isn't the Scott Thompson in this film. If I'm wrong, please correct me. Darry2385 15:23, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong link to Rick Mitchell...[edit]

The link to Rick Mitchell goes to some Australian guy instead of the TV weatherman from KOCO-TV in Oklahoma City. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.255.76.255 (talk) 02:55, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Twistermovieposter.jpg[edit]

Image:Twistermovieposter.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Questionable Trivia[edit]

I see that it says that in real life one couldn't survive an F-5 Tornado by strapping yourself to a pipe. It also states that both the barn and the house should've been leveled. I find this highly uneducated and highly unsupported by evidence of past tornados. Tornados (for instance) have been known to destroy sections of buildings and leave items, tables, and funiture in tact in the exact place they were before the storm. They've also been seen to "jump" houses, leveling various houses out of a suburb and leaving the rest with some stripped siding or with absolutley no damage at all. I'm not sure but if I had to guess, I'd say the person that added that was pretty young, using a phrase such as "cut you to ribbons". I'd advise imediate removal of this as it's unsuppported by widely known facts about tornados, I'm not saying you're safe everytime you go out there and strap yourself to a pipe, but with as unpredictable as tornados are, you've at least got a fair chance of survival. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.115.83.54 (talk) 03:42, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I know the above was written nearly six years ago, but I just wanted to point out that they would most definitely have been "cut to ribbons". Chances of surviving (if it really was supposed to be an F5) up to 300mph projectiles tossed at a human would be extremely slim. Twister is one of my favorites, but I can't think of a more scientifically inaccurate movie. Nonoah59 (talk) 01:34, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Manekz[edit]

Is the reference that twister is the last movie to be released on HD-DVD make any sence? The citation page also did not provide any answer. I did not wanna remove it before verifyin the informaiton! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.43.24.229 (talk) 14:53, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Characters and vehicles[edit]

I cut back the character section quite a bit; what was there extended to plot points (ie. what happens to each character), trivia ("he likes soda") and original research (ie. the personality profiles). Likewise, the description of the vehicles in the film is not pertinent as the film does not hinge upon the types or colors of vehicles driven; as such I removed as trivia. Jgm (talk) 19:38, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, do we need both a cast listing in the infobox and as a seperate section? I'm inclined to remove the section. Thoughts? Jgm (talk) 21:10, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok I'll get rid of the vehicles and trim down the characters, but there isn't enough on the characters. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.81.146.143 (talk) 21:18, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The exposition about the characters is best summed in the plot, should it be necessary. Character synopses should be less about what the character does/is, and moreso about the development of the character and the casting. — pd_THOR | =/\= | 21:25, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Genre[edit]

Several folks have had this as a disaster film rather than a drama; I'm of the opinion it's the latter as it does not meet the definition at the former: focusing on the characters' attempts to avert, escape or cope with the disaster and its aftermath. I do see that Twister is cited on the disaster film page, so there must be some consensus and I won't revert, but I'd like to get others' opinions here. Jgm (talk) 21:19, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I agree this is a difficuled catagory to place. Most of the film is centred around the destructive forces of the Twisters, but on the other hand you have the storyline of the two main characters coming closer together (again). I would of personaly left it as "Drama" as the movie seems to be more focused around the characters then the events. MattyC3350 (talk) 05:44, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Their research and storm chasing is an attempt to avert disaster-- loss of life caused by the unpredictable nature of tornadoes. In that way, they are almost like firefighters in an inferno flick. MMetro (talk) 14:14, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First DVD[edit]

It's claimed in the lead...but is it even true? Surely there's a source that can confirm this better than the imdb trivia page. I'm only asking because I'm seeing people on answer boards saying otherwise, and the ones that do say Twister say it because they saw it on imdb (or wikipedia) - SoSaysChappy (talk) 07:58, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Score information[edit]

The page now says that a citation is needed in connection with the claim that the score is hard to find. I can't think of any other way than to point out that you can't buy a new copy on Amazon.com. Maybe that would be more appropriate and succinct.

I'd also like to add to the section to mention that the orchestral music at the end of the scene at Aunt Meg’s is not on the sountrack. I’m talking about the first scene with Aunt Meg, where we find out that she slaughters her own cows and that an F5 is “The Finger of God”. It starts as Aunt Meg is kissing everyone goodbye and the camera swoops over the Wakita water tower. It then continues as we fly along with the caravan through the Oklahoma countryside. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidshere (talkcontribs) 19:11, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know this is an old post, but I can shed some light on it. The cue you are referring to is the orchestral arrangement of Humans Being, a piece that is otherwise "rock". It was never actually released, unfortunately. -RadicalOne---Contact Me 03:53, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I just watched the movie on tv. Where is the song that Eric Clampton was doing in one of the early scenes. It was a music video being played on a tv in one of the vehicles. --63.3.2.130 (talk) 03:11, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Plagiarized Script[edit]

A section should be added about the movie being plagiarized from the script "Catch The Wind" by Stephen Kessler. The judge in the case said there were too many coincidences for the script not to be plagiarized but at the same time too many alterations in the script had been written, allowing the movie to escape the narrow definition of copyright infringement. (All a script thief has to do is make cosmetic changes in a script to escape copyright infringement). Script hijacking is an epidemic in Hollywood. A famous example of Spielberg stealing a script is "Amistad", which was stolen from "Echo of Lions" by Barbara Chase-Riboud. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.122.182.221 (talk) 03:10, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is not the place to push an agenda on Spielberg or movie script stealing, but if you have reliable sources, feel free to add the section on this script being stolen. Ks0stm (TCG) 03:13, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Box Office[edit]

Urban legends[edit]

The urban legends section seems to be a whole lot of nothing. The second paragraph, about the house being destroyed, is not an urban legend at all. I think nothing is lost if that whole section is removed. ---The Old JacobiteThe '45 23:06, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What does the Skyrim story have to do with the movie?[edit]

The video game section has a long description of a story that doesn't seem related to Twister. Or maybe the way it's written makes it hard to understand? 146.115.84.9 (talk) 19:15, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The Reception section is a bit opinionated[edit]

In the Reception section, there's some Puffery with the film being described as an "A-level disaster movie", and describing the storm effects as "jaw-dropping" and how they "brought the storms to life." In addition, the long list of other films and mention of Hollywood "ha[ving] to put a stop to big-scale disaster movies for a while" due to the September 11th Attacks is not related to Twister specifically, and feels like something that'd fit better in an essay. Donowa53 (talk) 18:18, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

After looking over the page, it needs a lot of work. Years of editors adding original research and blogs as sources have tainted the page. I did do a quick clean up to address your concerns (and more). Thanks for your comment. Mike Allen 20:50, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
