Vincennes Treaty of 1803?[edit]

I'm not able to find any sources that refer to a treaty of Vincennes concluded in 1803. There is the Treaty of Fort Wayne (1803) in which the boundaries of the Vincennes Tract were defined. There are two treaties negotiated at Vincennes, but both were in 1804 -- the first on August 18, 1804, with the Delaware [1] [2] and the second on August 27, 1804, with the Piankishaw [3] [4]. In both, the tribes cede claims to land south of the Vincennes Tract and both treaties refer to the Treaty of Fort Wayne rather than to any previous Treaty of Vincennes. The 1803 treaty did not purchase any land, it only confirmed US possesion of the Vincennes tract. I will locate a source. Perhaps this is the Treaty of Fort wayne, 1803? Charles Edward (Talk) 23:16, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[5] Here it is in this book, titles as teh Treaty with the Delewares, etc, 1803. It was in fact negotiated at fort wayne. I say we move that section to a seperate article, or the Treaty of Fort Wayne article. Charles Edward

Sure, I just finished making a stub for the Treaty of Fort Wayne (1803). This info can go there (and perhaps the cross-references back to this treaty can be clarified). By the way, there actually were two other treaties negotiated at Vincennes in 1803 -- one with the Kaskaskia on August 13, 1803, which is a pretty significant cession of land in southern Illinois and the other on August 7, 1803 was a followup to the Treaty of Fort Wayne, confirming the agreement with some tribes that were not present. older ≠ wiser 23:34, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
