Citation Needed[edit]

"They have no need to risk their lives sucking blood in adulthood, having already accumulated the necessary materials for oogenesis and vitellogenesis." What is the source of the above statement? Or is it original research? Common names[edit]

The article used to claim:

Toxorhynchites, also known as mosquito hawks or mosquito eaters, are a cosmopolitan genus.

I've removed the reference to both common names; I think they're just confusions. The Internet repeats the claim plenty of times, possibly due to the same confusion and possibly because they saw the claim on this Wikipedia article (or on Mosquito hawk).

Searching for reliable sources, Google Books (http://www.google.com/search?q=Toxorhynchites+%22mosquito+hawk%22&btnG=Search+Books&tbm=bks&tbo=1) turns up only one link, a book that explicitly references Wikipedia. Google Scholar (http://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&q=Toxorhynchites+%22mosquito+hawk%22) turns up the same book plus one other book that doesn't use the two phrases in the same context. Confusing structure[edit]

The 4th paragraph begins talking about other mosquitoes that feed on blood, but then abruptly transitions into a description of eggs. The species list contain 87 species and more 5 sub species which it was :Toxorhynchites inornatus inornatus Toxorhynchites haemorrhoidalis haemorrhoidalis Toxorhynchites rutilus septentrionalis Toxorhynchites rutilus rutilus Toxorhynchites christophi christophi.
