Timeline(2009)[edit]

This article is an extension of the Timeline of the Presidency of Barack Obama (2009). Over the past year the original article has been edited with brevity and clarity as the guiding precepts. The following (What to include) were some tips from the very beginning that have seemed to work to keep the article "grounded". --Buster7 (talk) 05:27, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What to include[edit]

During the AfD discussion there have been worries brought up about the content of this article. As this should be decided here rather than there, I thought I'd give a quick stab at trying to lay out what is suitable info to add and what is not. Please feel free to add or subtract how you see fit. Joshdboz (talk) 11:50, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Things NOT to include[edit]

  • Routine activities (calls, meetings, weekly addresses, trips to Capitol Hill, etc)
  • Unremarkable ceremonies (obscure legislation/executive orders, obscure nominations/speeches/announcements, etc)
    • When in doubt, many items can be judged by how much coverage they generate (breadth and depth).

Things TO include[edit]

  • Firsts (presidential orders, Predator-drone attack, etc) - obviously this means it will be somewhat frontloaded
  • Major speeches
  • Signings of major pieces of legislation
  • Foreign trips/Major diplomatic meetings
  • Other major events by administration personnel (resignations, major diplomacy (Cuba/Iran/DPRK...), etc)

To sum it up, basically use commonsense, and discuss things that are borderline or questionable. Joshdboz (talk) 11:50, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What happened?[edit]

This article looked promising; it's a shame that the regulars stopped editing it. -- Jack?! 03:02, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, unfortunately (sarcasm) I got a job in the real world and I just don't have the time to keep up with this particular article. I had been one of the regulars and I, too, was disappointed to see that no one else picked up the slack. I think it is a useful article and not too difficult to keep up. It's just time consuming. The longer it goes without being updated, the more difficult it will be to track down older events. — Diiscool (talk) 12:38, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Consider the slack picked up. It is a chore to search Obama's daily schedules and transfer them to the timeline. But...I think you are to thank, Diiscool, for leading the way to the "suntimes.com" pages which are a good starting point to play this catch-up game to get the timeline back to speed. I'm grabbing about five/six days at a time using the Lynn Sweet page as the ref. When possible (time is a tyrant!) I go back and change the ref to one with more info about the event, etc. I hope to be caught up by the holidays.Buster7 (talk) 06:55, 21 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Buster, and SenatorSteve, for getting this timeline going again. I still watch it but I don't make too many edits. I have it in the back of my mind to expand some references and maybe I will someday. The suntimes.com Lynn Sweet daily schedules are great starting places, but of course, Obama might or not actually have done something listed on the schedule.—Diiscool (talk) 14:14, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

White House Schedule[edit]

Looks like the White House now has the President's schedule online too: http://www.whitehouse.gov/schedule/president.—Diiscool (talk) 14:08, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Right. It has helped alot in co-ordinating what the daily schedule was after April...to be able to fill in the gaps. Thanks for the heads up.Buster7 (talk) 16:25, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
