Full titles vs Just the media names[edit]

Some discussion about calling items on this page by their full name, as in:

or

as EmileVictor put it.

or alternatively (as I originally had put), just the name of each form of media, as in:

We'll see what people think - I think just the media names are sufficient. Unfortunately I've been a bit inconsistent by giving the full names of all the books, since unlike all the other media, each book has a different name.

Also looking forward to the future, perhaps the new film may be called The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (film), so each film should be given its full title as the books are.

So I'd be happy with that outcome, but perhaps we should call all the media by its full name. Suggestions? —EatMyShortz 06:44, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Alternate table layout[edit]

Here is an alternative layout I've come up with. It's a bit bulkier and uglier (more like a Vogon ship) but lays things out clearer I think, and resolves the issue above:

Date Media Title
March 8 - April 12, 1978 Radio series Primary Phase
December 24, 1978 Radio series Fit the Seventh (Christmas Special)
October, 1979 Book The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
January 21 - January 25, 1980 Radio series Secondary Phase: Fit the Eighth to Fit the Twelfth
1980 Book The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
January 5 - February 9, 1981 TV series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
1982 Book Life, the Universe and Everything
1984 Book So Long, and Thanks For All the Fish
1984 Computer game The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
1985 Radio scripts The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: The Original Radio Scripts
1986 Short story Young Zaphod Plays it Safe
1992 Book Mostly Harmless
May 11, 2001 Death of Douglas Adams
September 21 - October 26, 2004 Radio series Tertiary Phase
May 3 - May 24, 2005 Radio series Quandary Phase
April 28, 2005 Movie The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
May 31 - June 21, 2005 Radio series Quintessential Phase

I haven't put it in the page, I'm not sure if I like it better or not. What do people think? —EatMyShortz 07:07, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think that it would look better if the table borders weren't as visible. Val42 15:50, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Like this?

Date Media Title
March 8 - April 12, 1978 Radio series Primary Phase
December 24, 1978 Radio series Fit the Seventh (Christmas Special)
And so on...
April 28, 2005 Movie The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
May 31 - June 21, 2005 Radio series Quintessential Phase

I've always hated the 3D over-the-top look of HTML tables, but as far as I can tell, there is no way to make plain border lines instead of the 3D look, so this "no-lines" look is the only other option. —EatMyShortz 02:05, 25 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I just go and find a table somewhere else on Wikipedia that looks like what I want and modify it. Here's the above data formatted using one of these other table formats:
Date Media Title
March 8 - April 12, 1978 Radio series Primary Phase
December 24, 1978 Radio series Fit the Seventh (Christmas Special)
And so on...
April 28, 2005 Movie The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
May 31 - June 21, 2005 Radio series Quintessential Phase
I think that this looks better than either of the others. What do you think? Val42 05:08, 25 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ooh that one is lovely! I'll put it in. Thanks —EatMyShortz 11:17, 25 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The Absence of The Salmon of Doubt[edit]

The Salmon of Doubt appears to be missing from this list. Any particular reason? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.65.109.10 (talk) 18:35, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As published, it is more a part of the Dirk Gently series. HairyWombat 05:08, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Comic Books[edit]

Is there a reason the comics aren't included in this? I believe they were printed by DC, but I can't at all remember when they were released, and I was hoping that this page would have had that info. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.193.129.21 (talk) 09:22, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
