The article says that, in series two, Tim is driven to choose between Dawn and Rachel, and that he only dumps Rachel because he thinks (wrongly, as it turns out) that he and Dawn are now more or less an item. This interpretation makes no sense to me. I've always thought that the only reason Tim dumps Rachel is that he can't bear her any more, because she is too clingy and does things like arranging a weekend with her parents without consulting him. Of course we are not going to get any kind of source on this, as is always the way with plot summaries. But I think this one needs to be changed. --Viennese Waltz 13:15, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that that interpretation made no sense. My own take is that Tim’s attraction to Rachel was never anywhere near the level of his deep connection with Dawn. He is brought face to face with that truth when the IT guy ‘outs’ him in Rachel’s presence (“Gone off Dawn now, have you?”). He immediately knows that he can’t keep pretending (to himself as much as anyone else) and has to to break up with Rachel. At this point he has no expectation whatsoever that Dawn will return his feelings (or take action on her feelings for him); this is purely his integrity to his own truth (and fairness to Rachel).
