Family[edit]

The accepted view of genalogists appears to be that Thomas only had one son, Nathaniel, described as Prebendary of Worcester Cathedral (1599-1681) and vicar of Martin Husingtree.[1] However, Nathaniel Tomkyns BD bought a share in the manor of Little Inkberrow in 1680, which his widow settled on Pakington Tomkyns in 1712: Victoria County History, Worcs III, 423. Ibid. IV, 136, shows how the manor of Martin in Martin Husingtree passed from John Haselock to his widow Isabel, who married successively Guy Hall and Nathaniel Tomkyns DD. John Duncumbe, Collections towards history and antiquities of the County of Hereford II (1), 73 says that John Tomkins, a free burgess of Bromyard bought Buckenhill in Bromyard (who married Miss Eyre), and that dwscended to Nathaniel (who married Miss Baynham), Packington (who married Mary Bohun), George (died 1768), and his brother Thomas (whose son Packington George sold buckenhill in 1804, and was living in bath in 1812. The marriage of Nathaniel the Prebendary (after 1653) was very late in life. Could he have married before? Could they all be related? Could Nathaniel have married before Isabella Folliott? My sources (Tuttles and Boden - the latter a very careful biographer) give no hint of a previous marriage. If you're a genealogist and suspect that the research is warranted, I can but encourage you to proceed. In fact, the subject is hardly relevant to this article, and an independent article on Nathaniel would be required (which would be very nice). English, not Welsh[edit]

Can we lay to rest the notion that Tomkins was Welsh? His happening to have been born there doesn't make him Welsh. His parents moved from Cornwall to Wales a few years before he was born (probably for reasons of employment), and he lived there until he was maybe no more than 14, when he moved permanently back to England. There is no justification for calling him Welsh. Nick Michael (talk) 07:55, 6 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Removal from Dab[edit]

The following is the remains of a whole entry, removed from the corr'g Dab bcz it should stop distracting users who are looking for WP info on it or other works on the Dab page, until the work is at **least** mentioned in the accompanying bio article: * Woe Is Me (anthem)", by Thomas Tomkins.
