Merge Oliver DeMille into this article[edit]

Given that Oliver DeMille may not be notable beyond his TJED book / movement, I propose that his biography be merged into this article. In addition, it may be appropriate to retitle this article "Thomas Jefferson Education", so that it encapsulates the entire TJED movement, not just the one book DeMille wrote. --TrustTruth (talk) 00:27, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I respectfully oppose the merge, as I think both DeMille (for his role as an educator, administrator, and confirmed con artist) and TJED (for its place in home schooling) are notable and merit separate articles. —Eustress talk 03:37, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I also oppose the merge. It is clear that he is an important figure in some circles. In addition, he is the founder of a university. It makes no sense to merge these articles. --Trms (talk)
He's not the founder of a university. He is one of the founders of GWU, current enrollment <100. In any case, I think any notability could be captured succinctly in the Thomas Jefferson Education article. --TrustTruth (talk) 15:47, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see the value of a merge. The current article on Oliver DeMille is reasonably neutral and it has the right length. If the notability of either article were to be questioned, I think A Thomas Jefferson Education is weaker, since it sounds like a precis of the book, without much comment by third parties. Better just leave things as they are. EdJohnston (talk) 19:39, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I however do want to think further about the possible rename of this to "Thomas Jefferson Education", which might permit the rational expansion of this article. DGG (talk) 18:37, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree this article should probably be renamed "Thomas Jefferson Education" at the very least. It doesn't look like there's any consensus on merging, so I'll drop the idea. --TrustTruth (talk) 01:13, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions for Improving This Article[edit]

1. I agree that the title of the article should be changed, with possible redirects for the book titles that are the textbooks of tjed, as well as "Leadership Education", if it is not otherwise differentiated.

Classics, not textbooks! :) --TrustTruth (talk) 13:14, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

2. The lead should be re-written to reflect a description of the educational philosophy/movement, as opposed to the book. Also, the current language referring to its popularity needs a more NPOV. Minor tweaks could fix that.

3. Next section could be an enumeration of the main TJEd titles by DeMille et al, with a very brief description of them.

4. Next section could be the body as it exists now, with minor edits. However, some sort of introductory sentence would be in order, I think.

5. Next section could note the scope of influence of the philosophy, including the variations and spinoffs (not an advertisement, but a generic description of the popular forms), and geography/demographic of practitioners.

6. Nothing else comes to mind. --Ibinthinkin (talk) 13:07, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, I'm all for it. --TrustTruth (talk) 13:14, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
