Trampas[edit]

I watched the TV series on BBC and recently tried the novel. Surprised to find that Trampas there is a villain whom The Virginian finally shoots dead. Pretty sure he was a friend and ally in the TV series.

Editors Removing Improved Information[edit]

Right now The Virginian is being aired on Encore westerns as stated in this article. They are airing all episodes in proper order from start to finish. They have already aired more than half of the nine year run (1962-1967) IP's 98.238.30.147 and 76.101.99.77 have been watching episodes five days a week and trying to update information about the show based on these recent viewings. It seems that the current editors remove the bulk of the new information. Gunsmoke and Bonanza have vast amounts of information yet these editors are limiting new information that would be helpful to visitors of Wikipedia interested in The Virginian. Here is an example of the last action by an editor. Information was added about the many excellent directors and writers of the shows to compliment the listings of producers, editors and cinematographers already on the page. They were removed without explanation. Jackie Coogan who is a very notable guest star to the show and is well known was removed without explanation. A correction to the listed composer and arranger of the theme song "Lonesome Tree" was reverted. Percy Faith composed Stanley Wilson arranged, this should be known.

In the past new categories of "See Also" "Trivia" and other informative additions have been removed without explanation. Around the internet on Virginian related sites there are many statements from visitors that they have tried to update and improve the article on The Virginian on Wikipedia and have had all their work deleted and reverted without reason. Why is this occurring? Even the writer of the only book on the TV show Paul Green has voiced his frustration to update information here from his direct contact with the actors and producers of the show. Both The Virginain and Wikipedia deserve that this article be updated with as much new information as possible before the information is lost forever. Wikipedia is supposed to allow information collection from many sources. the Virginian's name[edit]

I see in the article that the Virginian's real name is never given. I watched an episode on Encore some time ago before I read this article and in it Molly introduces the Virginian to twin sisters saying,"this is <can't remember what it was>, but everyone calls him the Virginian." The Virginian's horse[edit]

The Virginian's horse is NOT as incorrectly stated in the main article "white". He is actually an Appaloosa, his colouring is what is considered to be "varnish markings" i.e. he would have been born much darker (chestnut I would say) possibly with a white blanket (hair) over his rump and then slowly turned lighter as he got older but leaving some darker markings around his face and legs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.6.150.2 (talk) 23:26, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Character Information[edit]

I'm working on adding a paragraph of information on the characters, The Virginian, Trampas, and several of the other main cast members. I'm planning to add a screenshot each to go with the individual characters. I noticed that Bonanza had a long bit on information like this. Issue tags[edit]

Hello, Ckatz. I was wondering exactly why you re-posted the Copy-edit and Clean-up disclaimers to The Virginian (TV series) page? It doesn't really make sense to me. I went through and edited it out, made all the tone the same, took out unnecessary information, and several other things. You'll find that the page is actually quite smaller than either Gunsmoke or Bonanza, (neither of which contain disclaimers) and since it is of the same status, (well known, general favorite, western TV series ect...) I really don't think it should be as small as you seem to want it to be. I didn't remove the tags for no reason. I actually did what they were requesting. However, to take out even more information, I think would be a bit unnecessary. f you have a reason for this, could you please explain it? Meltoncub (talk) 18:00, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, didn't notice quite how much you'd trimmed. One of the biggest problems was in the excessive lists of what seemed like everyone associated with the show. Those might be suitable for a list article, but not for the main article. Thanks for the hard work in trimming; the only thing left might be to reduce the "guest stars" list to prose highlighting a handful of the most notable guests. --Ckatz^chat _spy 18:53, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm currently watching the series on COZI TV, at this moment, the episode "The Welcoming Town". The main article mistakenly links us to Robert Fuller the wrestler, not Robert Fuller the western actor. First appearance inconsistency?[edit]

Just passin' thru. I see in the section headed Main Cast for the character of The Virginian is written: "James Drury first played The Virginian on the July 6, 1958 episode of Decision." But in the box below the photo of the character is written: "First appearance The Executioners" (1962)". The Virginian's name was Lafferty?[edit]

This comes from confusing dialogue in the season 3 episode "Hour of the Tiger" when Judge Garth is making introductions when meeting Jim Lafferty, played by Leo Gordon. The dialogue:
