The rank[edit]

Shouldn't it be "second lieutenant" instead of "ensign" (a navy rank)? --85.156.236.39 (talk) 16:43, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The story of Sven Dufva should be described due to its importance as an inspiration in the subsequent Finnish history. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.128.195.243 (talk) 18:33, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

fv vs. v[edit]

I have reverted an anonymous editor's changes. In Runeberg's original text, the name Dufva has the archaic spelling with fv. An editor had changed it to the modern v, as used in the Project Runeberg text to which this article links. That text, however, is a 1920s edition which not only uses modernized spelling but makes further alterations to the text, eg. "...yngst bland dem sin Sven" becomes "...yngst av dem var Sven". I can't say I know but I suspect these are "corrections" made for the benefit of schoolchildren, for whom the poems were compulsory reading those days in Sweden as well as in Finland. (Indeed I have seen a 1920s Swedish school history textbook that omits all discussion of the events of the 1808–09 war, noting only that the pupils will already be familiar with them, presumably from Runeberg's poems.)

I shall add another link to a 19th C text and add a note to the newer version. At any rate, there is no need to modernize Dufva's spelling, it being a proper name. --Rallette (talk) 09:29, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
