Trivia[edit]

As of 19:34, 1 February 2006 (UTC), the school's IT network has been blocked from Wikipedia 5 times, of which the most recent being a ban of 3 months.

School song[edit]

Does anyone know when the person who wrote the lyrics to the school song died? Copyright expires 70 years after the death of the lyricist so unless he died after 1937 the lyrics are not in the public domain and should not be published on this page. See: Wikipedia:Copyrights. Dahliarose 23:40, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have contacted the Worshipful Company of Skinners to see if they can provide any details of copyright status. As the song was written for the school after opening in 1887, it is likely that the lyricist did die before 1937 (a full 50 years after composition!), however, conformation is being sought. --McKDandy 10:34, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Further to this, the Old Skinners Society contains the song in full on their website with no mention of copyright, I'm not sure if this helps? --McKDandy 10:43, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • It might well be in the public domain but it's best to clarify the situation. The Old Skinners' Society might be completely unaware of the copyright situation. Wikipedia content can be freely distributed and reproduced so it's important to ensure that no copyrighted material is included. Dahliarose 22:55, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
        • It was not written as a commercial work, so is not copyrighted, and in the Public domain. Mike Young 12:24, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've removed the word 'breathe' from the school song, along with some exclamation marks I don't remember being in the original. Would someone please update the punctuation too? hammeredshark

  • It was quite a surprise for me to find out about your school song, as it is written to the same tune and remarkably similar lyrics as that of my own school [Colchester Royal Grammar School]. The lyrics are both by the same man, Percy Shaw-Jeffrey, who became, 5 years later, the headmaster of CRGS. One wonders, therefore, how he came to pass on the song that was already in place at Skinners' - a school he obviously knew well. I assume he must have "brought it with him" as it were when he became headmaster at CRGS. Was he headmaster at the Skinner's school? Just a master perhaps? If he was, he came to us via Clifton college... Certainly, Cuthbert H Cronk, composer of the music, lived in Tunbridge Wells. I will gather any information I can from my school about the song, how it got copied over to CRGS, and generally tried to get to the bottom of this intriguing mystery. Any information from your end would be much appreciated! Jarry1250 (talk) 16:18, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected[edit]

I've semi-protected the article for a month due to the level of vandalism. Mjroots (talk) 05:57, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request from Makeaguess, 10 December 2010[edit]

{{edit semi-protected}} Please remove "Jaimi Lallu" from the list of head boys- this is an incorrect piece of information as the position has not yet been determined and is an example of unchecked vandalism. Makeaguess (talk) 21:49, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Done That whole section feels trivial (and was unreferenced) so I removed it. elektrikSHOOS 22:34, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Buildings[edit]

Two notable buildings are missing from this list: the now demolished (thank gods!) swimming pool and the mysterious and rarely discussed pavilion by the back wall along Stephen's Road. Anyone know enough to add details of these? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Madkingsoup (talkcontribs) 14:23, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Byng Hall section[edit]

The majority of the information in the Byng Hall subsection seems unnecessary and unrelated to the building itself. Is there are more appropriate article this info could be moved to? Lbc07 (talk) 19:50, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
