GA[edit]

  1. 'Commonly' and 'although' are opinions, and should be sourced or should be revised in the lead.
  2. Later Refs and Reprints may not be important outside of the comic realm.
  3. Value should be merged with the article. Remember, 'value' is of note, but can be easily amalgamated.

the_undertow talk 09:55, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Good point. That has now been changed.
  2. The later references show its lasting impact. Reprints reflect scarcity and need to be listed because Wikipedia readers will not be able to find the original fanzine to read it for verification.
  3. Value section is now a Collector's value section.

Taken out[edit]

here's info i have taken out so it can be merged:

  • ==Reprints==
  • The Official Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #18 reprints the first two pages with opening text and Shuster's splash art.
  • Nemo, the Classic Comics Library #2 (August 1983) p. 20-28 reprints the entire story.

the_undertow talk 10:15, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    • Blending it into the text could bury it and detract from its usefulness for reference purposes. Doczilla (talk) 10:10, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is this work PD?[edit]

This website lists it as PD; is anyone aware if this is true?

Under US law: probably. Copyrights required renewal after 26 years in those days and it's doubtful that JS & JS took the trouble to renew it at that time (assuming they'd bothered to register it in the first place).
Under EU law (and most of the rest of the world): probably not. Copyrights usually last 50-70 years after the death of the creator, and Jerry Siegel died in 1996. -Jason A. Quest (talk) 17:59, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
scans of the story were posted on the Commons in .djvu: Commons:File:Reign of theSuper -Man.djvu.Hyju (talk) 18:19, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hyphenation[edit]

The title of this story did not contain a hyphen ("Super-Man"). It is listed in the magazine's table of contents as "The Reign of the Superman", and (as the article notes) the name was spelled without a hyphen in the text of the story. There is a hyphen appearing in the typography at the top of the opening two-page spread, but that is because the name is split between the pages, which requires hyphenation just like it would be hyphenated as "SUPER-
MAN" if it were split between lines of text. -Jason A. Quest (talk) 17:59, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Take a closer look at the enlarged page. Super-Man does have a hyphen after the r. It looks smaller than it really is because of the curvature of that page at that part. It's EASY to see here: http://superman.nu/seventy/reign/1.gif Doczilla STOMP! 12:17, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I had no trouble seeing the hyphen (which is why I said "there is a hyphen" above). Shuster (or whoever did the typography) put a hyphen there because he was splitting the word between two pages, and the rules of typesetting call for a hyphen in that situation, so the reader can tell that it's not supposed to be read as two separate words ("super man"). The fact that it is does not have a hyphen any other time it appears in the entire publication makes it perfectly clear that Siegel did not intend for the name itself to include one (like Spider-Man does). -Jason A. Publication date[edit]

Had the story published at January 1933 ? or june 1933? the entry isent consistent on this point. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.69.142.119 (talk) 03:29, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Good question. Thanks for pointing this out. Along the way, someone changed the date on the image based on Look up in the Sky!: The Amazing Story of Superman DVD but didn't change it in the opening sentence. Doczilla STOMP! 04:55, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

On the DVD it said January 1933. 08:48 PM, 13 October 2017

==Start class== I just started the article. As its creator, I didn't feel it would be appropriate for me to class it otherwise. Doczilla (talk) 20:03, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
