The Ratio[edit]

Could you clarify your intent in this edit? Thanks! Ovinus (talk) 15:05, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Ovinus When I think of "The Ratio", I often think of either the math term or the Twitter term. This is confirmed by google, if you type in "The Ratio" into google search the first result is https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/the-ratio-ratioed, which talks about the Twitter phenomenon. Someone did try to change the redirect to the Twitter phenomenon, but it got reverted. I thought the problem could be fixed by turning it into a disambiguation page, which would be a compromise of the two entries. RPI2026F1 (talk) 15:11, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think it'll be better to continue this on the talk page of the page itself, so I will be moving it. RPI2026F1 (talk) 15:12, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Twitter "ratio", sure... but why The gender ratio at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute? This is incredibly random. Why RPI; why not some random other university? Ovinus (talk) 15:34, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea, maybe this was a talked-about thing back when the page was created in 2007? The creator seems to monitor this page though and did undo the redirect to Twitter's ratio.
My question is if I should add in the "RPI Gender Ratio" link to the new target at Ratio (disambiguation). Should I continue the conversation there? RPI2026F1 (talk) 16:03, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely no link to that. I'm guessing it was a troll redirect originally, unless you know of some reason that RPI's gender imbalance is particularly unusual or well-known. Ovinus (talk) 00:09, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it was a troll but more of something that the original creator believed to be significant. I will say that the redirect did exist before the Twitter ratio was a thing, so that may be it. RPI2026F1 (talk) 00:20, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh shit, I'm sorry. I thought the original redirect was to the Twitter "ratio". I've redirected to Ratio (disambiguation—hope that's okay. Clearly the original redir was a troll. Thank you for catching this. Ovinus (talk) 15:36, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
