Controversy

This show has been heavily critisized for coyping the idea from the shows American Dragon: Jake Long and Kim Possible. These are most of the reasons for American Dragon:

1. Parents had their generation skipped 2. Talking dog with magical knowledge 3. Same initials ([J]uniper [L]ee - [J]ake [L]ong) 4. Grandparents as mentors 5. Both are celebrities in the magical world 6. Troublesome sibling that share powers 7. Akward friends

These are similarities with Kim Possible:

1. Teen crime fighter 2. Responciblity destroying their lives

The problem with this comparison is that everyone keeps overlooking the fact that they premired just 4 months apart from each other. I'm no expert in the animation industry but I'm pretty sure you cannot produce a copycat in that limited amount of time. Before a show is even ready to be pitched its usually just an idea for months, maybe even years. I cannot believe thy this show copied American Dragon. As for the Kim Possible comparison, you could say that Kim Possible copied Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Totally Spies.SirFakeName (talk) 15:12, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

I disagree about Kim Possible. Kim does teenage crime fighting as a hobby. She could simply stop anytime she wants. Juniper Lee, on the other hand, does nothing but complaining about her job as the Te Xuan Ze. Kikker v11 (talk) 20:43, 13 June 2018 (UTC)

On the show, June's title is the Te Xuan Ze, not the thing she needs to protect. Sheesh, do any of you even watch the show? --Wack'd About Wiki 21:53, 25 August 2005 (UTC)

"Magical Characters" section

May be, it should sorted as:

  • Monsters
  • Demons
  • Other Magical Creatures

not

  • Season One
  • Season Two
  • Holdday Specials

--성혀니talk with mesee my work 12:21, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

This section is getting rather large. It should be split off into a new article at some point. Also, the entire thing has been rewritten into the proper format. It is no longer sorted by season and it no longer describes several characters in a single entry. Do not alter this format. Sorting by season is bad style. - Someguy0830 07:48, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

What "Life and Times" means?

I mean, What detailed mean for Life and Times?

It's just part of the title, thank you. NoseNuggets 12:48 PM US EST Jan 31 2006.

Editing fancruft

I went ahead and edited some chunks out of this article, mostly the "controversy" section and any lines comparing the plot/themes/characters to other plots/themes/characters from unrelated series. I don't know why people think that unnecessary fancruft speculation like that is encyclopaedic, but it's not. It doesn't matter if you and your friends think that some character looks like another. I see this all over Wikipedia. 99% of the time, it's a coincidence. Nowadays, nearly every new cartoon copies in some way from another. It's unavoidable. Unless the creators or designers flat-out admit that they stole from other series, it's not notable. (I left in the "Simpsons-Buffy" paragraph, but just because it has a direct quote from a creator. Even so, it's still not really notable) And somehow I doubt that the primary audience of Juniper Lee consider her to be a Mary-Jane character. Why does the fanfiction community always think that their nebulous connections belong in an encyclopedia?

Wikipedia is supposed to be a neutral, dry information site. Please keep personal observations out of the articles. I don't want to get into an edit war here. --Marcg106 22:58, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

As far as the "personal observations" you allude to, there are character comparisons (such as Ophelia to Yumi in Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi and the voice of Roger that is simular to Terrence from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends because the smae girl - Tara Strong - does their voices.) They are there as mere comparisons, not fancruft as you might think it is. NoseNuggets 4:27 PM US EST Jan 29 2006.
You want to know how close you are to being reported for vandalism, Marcg106? Too close IMHO. NoseNuggets 12:47 PM US EST Jan 31 2006.
He has a valid point. Be neutral. If you're going to add comparisons, add them in the trivia section and note that they are possible allusions. - Someguy0830 01:41, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Fan links.

Hi. I added a couple entries to the external links section, one for the sole Juniper Lee LJ community (and as far as I can tell, the sole dedicated discussion place for fans of the show). I also linked the show's fanlisting, speaking of which. I should note that I'm not a mod over at the LJ comm., just a member. I'm not trying to advertise or spam, just to let people know what's out there. If I've violated any sort of advertising rule I'm not aware of, I assure you it was unintentional. In that case, feel free to delete my entries. Just let me know so I don't make a similar mistake in future. Thanks. Liquid Engineer 02:45, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

Jazz?

Why has Ah-Mah's sub-entry header been changed to this? I've never heard anybody call her this on the show, ever. Moreover, it doesn't seem like any of the characters we've seen so far would call her that. I'm gonna go ahead and change it back to "Jasmine Lee (Ah-Mah)" and flesh out the description a bit. If I'm missing something, feel free to change it back. Liquid Engineer

Titles of episodes

In the List of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends episodes, the titles are in bold italic. I'm trying to do the same here, but Someguy keeps deleting it. Please leave it in the bold italic format, please. Thanks. NoseNuggets 10:43 PM US EST Feb 3 2006.

Titles don't belong in bold italic, they belong in regular italic. Bold should be avoided except in the opening paragraph to highlight the article's title or for bullet point headings like Note. See Wikipedia's Manual of style. - Someguy0830 03:49, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
Per WP:MOS-T, episodes of a TV series should be enclosed in quotation marks, without italics. --Muchness 08:14, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

New Last Names added

We added Ophelia's last name, Ramírez, and Roger's last name, Radcliffe, to thier bios. They was mentioned today (3/11/06) during "There's No Mitzvah Like Snow Mitzvah." NoseNuggets 11:15 AM US EST Mar 11 2006.

About the last American animated show to feature an Asian-American lead...

Doesn't Jackie Chan Adventures count? As far as I know it came after that other show which I barely recognize.

That was based on a living character. NoseNuggets 11:23 AM US EST.
True, but it doesn't explicitly define the lead as fictional, only as Asian-American.

Wouldn't American Dragon: Jake Long count? That is also another show that features an Asian-American lead character. If that's right, then this isn't the first show since Jackie Chan Adventures to feature an Asian-American lead character. TrackFan 22:29, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Xallion(Spelling) Showdown has an Asian lead also. Wouldn't that count? 75.0.38.54 21:55, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

Minor Characters reclassified

I've broken down the "Other characters" section into two parts: Family (June's brother and parents) and Friends (now in alphabetical order, except for Ms. Gomez.) C&C please. NoseNuggets 8:59 AM US EDT Apr 3 2006.

I don't know what C&C means, but it's been reverted. There's no need to further break down the sections. - Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 21:35, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Looking for sources/Information Check

Been doing some looking around and can't quite find a good source for Marcus' last name. Doesn't seem to be in any shows, unless it was in "There's a new trickster in town", which I have yet to see. Another point I'm interested in is the spelling of Jodi (Jody) Irwin's name. I've seen it spelled multiple ways multiple places, and originally it was spelled with an 'i'. Why the change? Finally, I have a bit of an issue with Roger's description. What I've seen is he falls into the category of class clown rather than "Failing at being cool". That's the input I have for right now. - kodra22

In order:

  1. I'm not sure on that either. It's not listed on the official site.
  2. Jody is spelled as such on the official site, so Jody is used.
  3. Roger is always trying to be cool, so that description is accurate.
-- Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 04:00, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

As to the issue of Jodi's name, IIRC it used to be spelled "Jodi" on the official CN flash site. This spelling was used on the IMDB page. The CN page has since been updated, and the IMDB page remains the same. Hence the confusion from some corners. As a matter of personal opinion, I prefer the spelling "Jodi," but I honestly do believe the spelling on the CN page was changed at some point. This isn't unheard of--Capcom now uses Dr Wiley in place of Dr Wily, for instance. As you say, there's not really any valid excuse to change it back if CN wants that to be the official name now, but it's still bizarre. (I personally want to, but recognize this would be starting an edit war.)

Does anyone else remember it being spelled Jodi on the official CN site? Or was I hallucinating? Liquid Engineer 00:30, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure if it was or not. Regardless of that fact, the current spelling is the spelling that should be used. In order of precedence for facts used it goes show, them official website, then other official sources, then Internet listings (IMDb, TV.com, etc), and fan-sites last depending on quality. Since the show never spells it out loud, the current website name should be used. - Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 00:33, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Received some input back from Judd Winnick concerning some of the questions. Seems like Marcus' last name is Conner, Dennis is 14, Jody is in fact spelled with a 'y', and he mentioned that new episodes from season 3 should be airing this summer. Hopefully meaning that we'll get the last few eps of Season 2 then a smoothe transition into season 3 - kodra22

That needs confirmation, though. How do we know it's correct? – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 00:03, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Through various efforts, me and another fan of yours have been attempting to foster the fan community through various means: Wikipedia, LiveJournal, DeviantArt, and various other communities.

It's come to my attention that there's a bit of confusion about several minor points that I would appreciate if you could answer, or else let me know that such information has never been released.
1) The Wikipedia site lists Marcus' last name as Carsner. I've seen little evidence to support this claim, and am wondering if the character of Marcus has been even given a last name.
> Marcus Conner.
On the same line, I personally am curious whether the character of Marcus will appear again, as Cartoon Network seems to promote him as a main character.
> Yep. he'll be around a bunch.
2) How is the name "Jody"/"Jodi" spelled. This is another case where I haven't seen any good indication one way or another, and for the longest time it was spelled "Jodi" and recently the spelling "Jody" has emerged.
> It's spelled Jody.
Also, kudos on your episode "There's no Mitzvah like snow Mitzvah". It and "Adventures in Babysitting" have easily been the most enjoyable episode this season.
> thanks, we were quite happy with it ourselves.
3) How old are the characters in the show? The common belief seems to be that June and her friends are 11, Ray Ray is 8, and that Dennis is 17.
> you're on the money with June and ray ray but Dennis is 14.
4) What is the status of season three? I read somewhere that you were working on one even before season two had debuted. Has Cartoon Network elected to pick it up? Or if not, have you talked to any other networks?
> we're well into production on season 3. The episodes will begin airing this summer.
Thanks for taking the time to read this email. Any response is most appreciated, and I hope you keep up the good work.

Wow, you got in contact with Judd Winick? That is AWESOME! Thanks, kodra! The info right from the source. Who knew? NoseNuggets 11:57 PM US EDT Apr 28 2006

There's never been a mention of Jody and Powerpuff Girls. In fact the only reference to Powerpuff Girls in the show is in "Take My Life, Please" when June is watching them, proclaiming she has 300 (not 200) episodes of the Powerpuff Girls to watch. - kodra22

Translation

Does anybody have a canon source for what Te Xuan Ze means in English?

I'm relatively certain that Te Xuan Ze is "特选择" which best translated as "The chosen one", but I don't have a Disney source to back it up so I'm reluctant to put it on the page itself.
