Linked Stories[edit]

Every serial between The Leisure Hive and The Five Doctors is linked in some way, either directly leading from one storyline to the next, or through direct reference.

That isn't strictly true as the between season gaps rarely reference the last story of previous season. For instance there could be a gap of months or years (in the continuity of the show) between Time-Flight and Arc of Infinity (hence the later "spin-offs" being set during the gap such as many of the audios by Big Finish. Also others are not depicted as following directly from the previous story or have a very tenuous connection for instance the gap between 'Castrovalva' was seen as big enough to fit the novel Cold Fusion (publishef as part of the Virgin Missing Adventures line). Also the only connection to The Visitation in Black Orchid is a line about the last time the TARDIS crew were on earth, they could have been to many other worlds in the mean time for all we know (and the BBC novel 'Divided Loyalties' is set between those stories). This is a very dubious statement and although partly true in a way, may need a rewrite as it seems to imply that any reference to the preceding story means it must be set directly after it.

Beginning with this story, the Doctor abandoned his famous multi-colored scarf in favour of a burgundy and purple one. Also, the question mark motif made its first appearance here as a regular element of the Doctor's wardrobe for his next three incarnations. The Doctor also sported a new burgundy overcoat, as part of his new colour coordinated clothing. For the first time, Tom Baker's Doctor would appear in the same costume for every episode in a season.

Again, this isn't strictly true as the Doctor appears in the same costume in every story in Tom Baker's first season (Season 12) as those stories were connected and depicted as taking place one after the other. Er, sorry. Right near the beginning (in the first scene) of Black Orchid is this exchange:

DOCTOR: It's interesting, isn't it. And no jet lag. Shall we go outside? NYSSA: You think that wise, considering what we've just done to London? DOCTOR: Oh, that would have happened if we'd been there or not. All part of Earth's history.

Nyssa says "what we've just done to London", ie. the events of The Visitation. Note the reference here about the infamous Divided Loyalties [1]. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.133.1.212 (talk) 04:58, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Quantel digital image processing system[edit]

The text reads "This was also the first story to use the Quantel digital image processing system." can someone please explain what exactly it is please, as my self don't quiet know what it is. Babelcolour5 (talk) 03:22, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've amended the link to Quantel Paintbox. I remember it being demonstrated on Tomorrow's World (possibly also on Blue Peter) at the time, where it was described as "the Paintbox", because it was BBC policy at the time not to give company names. --Redrose64 (talk) 14:43, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
