Fair use rationale for Image:KILLERPO.JPG[edit]

Image:KILLERPO.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Title[edit]

Why is the title presented only in simplified Chinese? Presumably it was originally written in traditional characters. I think this ought to be rectified. ed: well also the Cantonese should obviously be presented Casey J. Morris (talk) 01:01, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Home Video[edit]

Is this section really necessary? Even the statement "In 2007, Dragon Dynasty promised to release a two-disc DVD of The Killer but, as of 2009, it has not yet been released" doesn't contain any information. It should be deleted.77.181.78.51 (talk) 12:21, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Per MOS:FILM#Home_media, there is no problem with sections on home media like this. Considering the popularity of the film and it's general high reception, I think the fact it's not so easily available in the United States Region 1 DVD is important information. Hi, I am reviewing this article and will be adding comments below.

  • There are three links that need disambiguation:[1]
  • Thank you. In general, this is a well written article. I think it would help to add a little more detail to orient the reader. For example, in the Lead: " Woo went into filming The Killer with a rough draftthat was influenced by the films Le Samouraï, Mean Streets, and Narazumono." What was it about these films in particular that Woo had in mind? Are these three films about "honour and friendship and the relationship of two seemingly opposite people"?
  • I've cleaned this up a little in the lead. It's plot is influenced by Le Samourai and such, while he later referred to the film as a tribute to Melville and Scorsese. Andrzejbanas (talk) 21:46, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I should say that I like the article very much and find the film interesting. The Cast section is a little hard to understand for the novice. I wonder if there is another way to present Cast information, like in a table?
  • Thank you! I'm not sure if it would be appropriate to have as a table. Per WP:FILMCAST it suggests to label it how it is currently, while Wikipedia:Table suggests to use just point form instead of a table if there isn't a lot of information to convey. Do you have any other suggestions to make this article cleaned up? Andrzejbanas (talk) 21:50, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • ok, just a thought. I am slowly becoming acclimated to the article. I am having a little difficulty following the plot. Xtzou (Talk) 22:25, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. If there are still problems I can expand the plot. I was trying to make the plot small per WP:FILMPLOT, but there is tons of room for expansion to make things clear. Cheers. Andrzejbanas (talk)
  • Themes - "The structure of the film follows two men on the opposite side of the law who find a relation to each other in their opposition of a greater evil." - What is the greater evil? (Sorry to be dense.) Xtzou (Talk) 22:44, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No don't worry. They team up in order to help Jennie and to stop the leader of the Triads. I'll make a note of that. Andrzejbanas (talk) 22:48, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"Both Chang and Jennie meet negative outcomes in the film" - What is Jennie's negative outcome? (other than being blinded) Xtzou (Talk) 22:49, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is not clearly shown, but implied that she also dies. After Ah Jong is shot, both Jennie and Ah Jong cry out for each other and crawl to each other blindly. Ah Jong dies and Jennie is seen crawling off on her own still calling his name. Later in the production discussion, it is noted that there was an alternate ending with her living, but in interviews and such, Woo describes her ending as "tragic", implying that she does indeed die. Andrzejbanas (talk) 22:55, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Can you put some of that in the text? One persona that is not very clear is Jennie. It doesn't say in the plot section that she falls in love with Ah Jong. Her motives are not described. Xtzou (Talk) 23:03, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. I've tried to explain a bit more on how they meet each other in the first paragraph of the plot. Andrzejbanas (talk) 23:15, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Li and Ah Jong's relationship was influenced by the Spy vs. Spy comics from Mad Magazine." - Could you say in what way the relationship was influenced by the comics? Xtzou (Talk) 14:08, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Their relationship is explained in the next sentence with Woo's quote about the two birds. Or is that not specific enough? I can try to rephrase it so it's more obvious. :) Andrzejbanas (talk) 15:28, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • The relationship is explained, but is that the aspect that came from Spy vs. Spy comics? I'm assuming Spy vs. Spy is about such a relationship. If you think it is clear, then that is fine. Xtzou (Talk) 15:45, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree with you that it is explained. I think the article is a very interesting insight into Woo and the film. Xtzou (Talk) 18:23, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

See Also[edit]

The addition of See Also and a link to the List of Dragon Dynasty releases page was not done as free advertising, the claim in the undo note. I have no pecuniary interest in Dragon Dynasty or the Weinstein Company, it's corporate parent. It is not redundant with the link in the article about releases, since the article link goes to the Dragon Dynasty company page which is completely different and has no content about specific releases. A link to the list page provide a link to page containing a concise detailed description, without editorial content, of the DVD and Blu-Ray media content for the Dragon Dynasty releases of The Killer, information not present on the Dragon Dynasty company page. I agree with Andrzejbanas in the remark on the Home Video section above. The popularity, critical reception and historical importance of many Asian films, but the difficulty of finding readily available DVD Region 1 or Region 0 NTSC releases, makes this important information. Many of these releases, particularly ones by companies such as Dragon Dynasty, Hong Kong Legends and Criterion, include additional features such as interviews with actors and directors and feature-length commentaries by directors and Asian cinema experts, also important information to know about releases since it provides an avenue to pursue additional research about these films. I believe it is appropriate to keep that kind of detail on releases list pages such as the one done for Dragon Dynasty releases and not in an article such as this one. Also, release lists provide fairly current information about which releases are no longer in print, currently there are 7 out-of-print titles in the Dragon Dynasty release list. Fortunately, this title is not among them. I believe that keeping up with such releases may detract from the main focus of the main article for the film. I also believe it would be appropriate to have similar information about Hong Kong Legends releases and Criterion releases as well as any other company that makes notable releases of Asian cinema in western countries. Recent edits[edit]

Just for a discussion, I don't believe we need to continue with the recent edits. Chow Yun-Fat's name still needs the dash in it, so I don't know why that's being changed. Tsui Hark doesn't need to be mentioned in the lead as it's already a very long sentence. We don't have a link to "action crime" films, so I've separated the genre. I think it reads better that way. That DVD information has no citation so I've removed it. Please discuss it before we edit it again further. Andrzejbanas (talk) 10:53, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Shrimp Head and Small B[edit]

... The nickname given to Ah Jong by Li is Ah B which roughly translates to baby or kid. ...
... The nickname given to Li by Ah Jong is "Hau Tau", which roughly translates as "Shrimp head". ...

I just watched the movie. In the subtitles, Li calls Ah Jong "Shrimp Head" and Ah Jong calls Li "Small B". Was this in error? —Tamfang (talk) 08:10, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There are several nicknames given to the characters based on the translation? Andrzejbanas (talk) 15:41, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
These are the same nicknames, the question is which is which. This error, wherever it is, is not within the reasonable range of alternate translations. —Tamfang (talk) 20:58, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Music[edit]

Why was my edit not permitted, which mentioned the fact (and it is a fact) that James Horner's score from Red Heat is used in the film? Do you need a citation?GavSalkeld (talk) 08:10, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The answer to your question is in the edit summary that reverted your edit. Per WP:RS/IMDB IMDb cannot be used as a reference. MarnetteD | Talk 17:11, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Changing plot ending[edit]

Please stop changing the plots ending, its putting to much interpretation into it that the reader/viewer can figure out themselves. Its currently going against WP:FILMPLOT by making these changes. That is why the edit is being reverted. Andrzejbanas (talk) 17:09, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
