The Hanging Sun, Michael[edit]

What happened to the brother, Michael? He just disappears after the scene in the forest, when John hides in the wolf den. Are we to assume he just gave up looking for John? I did not read the book so cannot reference it, but unless I missed something, he is not mentioned again until John tells his father that Michael "is fine", just before he kills him.
