Is this film a "classic"?[edit]

Despite its critical and commercial failure, it is widely considered to be a horror classic among the same lines as The Exorcist or Poltergeist.

I agree, this borders on insanity. This is considered a shlock cult classic maybe, but on par with the excorcist? --Ughmonster 19:11, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I wish I'd actually seen this movie, since this article is written so poorly and seems unintentionally funny ('Next day, returns home, where the doors lock and the ghost says "Welcome home, cu**!" and she moves to Texas.' LOL...) This thing needs serious work, but you'd have to find someone that's actually watched the movie in order to fix it. 214.14.244.16 (talk) 12:37, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Steve[reply]

True story or not?[edit]

Is It( The Entity ) based on a TRUE Story?81.152.236.184 23:50, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, its also stated clearly at the beginning of the article. Mayankeagle (talk) 11:14, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The article says that. But it also seems confused about the name of this alleged real person. The second paragraph calls the actual person this story was based on "Doris Bither". The third paragraph calls the actual person "Carla (or Carlotta) Moran's (other possible names Doris Bither or Byther)". Are you saying that it's a true story but nobody knows the name of the actual woman? — Lawrence King (talk) 06:43, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

An editor on 2 August 2010 removed the following information:

The film is allegedly based on the life of Doris Bither (Doris Bither's son interview), who claims to continue being assaulted by an invisible being, though with lesser frequency and intensity (more recently it is claimed she no longer suffers from physical attacks, but still experiences the phenomena).

There is also a novel of the same name written by Frank DeFelitta (first published in 1978), which provides a very fictionalized account of Carla (or Carlotta) Moran's (real name Doris Bither) supposed experiences. The supposed haunting took place in Culver City, California, USA.

A book based on facts is on the works of the incidents that occurred to Doris Bither and her family. The book is based on research, interviews and actual witness testimonies. The book is scheduled to be released late in 2010 and will be available at (Ghost Theory).

I am pasting it here so it won't be lost in the event that someone can provide a source. Obviously an amateur ghost-hunting website isn't a valid source. And of course Wikipedia can't take a stand on whether ghosts actually exist. But if the creators of the movie claim that it is based on a true story, then that fact needs to be stated on this page. — Lawrence King (talk) 15:19, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This really is all that's required. We don't need free advertisements for upcoming books or ghost-hunting websites. - LuckyLouie (talk) 15:52, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The opening credits clearly state that the film is "based on the novel The Entity by Frank DeFilitta" so I am going to edit the article accordingly. TwoTwoHello (talk) 19:05, 24 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
